Big Foot
Svlad Cjelli There are two types of bans - section 14 bans, which are legal bans and which apply to all designated grounds (tiers 1 to 5) and international matches - they include surrendering passports when England play abroad and so on. There are two types of such this sort of ban - section 14a (criminal) and section 14b (civil) but the effect is more or less the same. These are imposed by a court and are for a fixed duration - usually 3 years.

As I understand it, there are currently 16 Reading supporters with section 14 bans - 11 for home matches and 5 for away matches.

Also, as a private premises, the club has the legal right to ban anyone they want to for whatever reason, as long as it's not on discriminatory grounds (race, age, sex, colour, sexuality etc) - and they tend to impose such bans generally for small numbers of games, as "warnings". This is typically done for breaches of ground regulations but definitely not for criminal matters. Anything criminal gets a section 14 ban, not a club ban.

What about the club telling supporters they can't attend other football stadia without getting a section 14 ban in place?

Eh? Don't understand....

RFC has banned supporters from visiting other football stadiums without having a section 14 ban granted by the courts. Any clearer?

By banned you mean they refused to sell these fans tickets through the ticket office?

For clubs bans, yes - plus confiscated their member card/ST for the duration of the ban, as well as notified gate stewards/CCTV that the person was not allowed admittance.

Care to give any further details of this action, as it is obviously not possible fro the club to do this, they could I guess under local banning refuse to sell tickets to away games.

Apparently this block is being closed from next season according to a reliable source of mine who has connections within RFC. Too much tension, and standing has caused this so they say.

I do not think they will close down a block/ part block when there is sufficient segregation. Perhaps dealing with coin throwing agitators there and then would assist in dissipating home support anger.

(yeah i know about the dealing with an incident in the concourse)

I'm not sure how they can do this - all they can do is refuse to sell tickets to an individual, but they have no jurisdiction over another company's premises, only their own.

They already refuse to sell individual tickets to non ST holders to this area, and they carefully check the ticket of each person sitting there to check they've got a valid ticket. So while it's not "closed" it's closed to new people - even ST holders who want to buy tickets fr their families to sit there.

There is a clearly mindset at the club which says thinks that people can only possibly want to be in Y26 in order to goad the opposition supporters. While that's true for some supporters, of course, the club are making a generalisation that it applies to all.

If they really wanted to do things properly and sensibly, they'd make Y26 the family area, reduce the prices there but make sure all there did have kids in attendance and that would give them a "buffer zone" instead of what they currently fear is a "conflict zone."

Unless this is a very recent development, it isn't true. I bought an individual ticket for Y26 or the Boxing Day game.

I wonder if SJ means member card holders?

I think they sell it last of all, so when there's going to be a big-selling match they'll sell Y26 tickets, but they won't for other matches - but please, if you know otherwise do let me know.

"properly and sensibly"?????

Let us send children to sit near coin throwers as a buffer.... idiocy +++.

I have no doubt neanderthals from the away end and Y25 would continue with 'banter' and families would leave in droves. Perhaps we should follow this sensible proposal by surrounding our troops in Helmand with toddlers as a buffer?

All the research on crowd behaviour has shown that if you take away the proximity between rival sets of supporters you take away the flash point. This process has been proven to work perfectly well at several other clubs.

Or do you really believe that anyone likely to throw a coin will throw it come what may...?

They've done it already, I can appreciate they can probably ban supporters from purchasing tickets for away sections at Reading away games but to explicitly tell supporters if they're seen at away games they will be banned for life is outside their powers isn't it?

To further backup this case, the amount of coins thrown into the East Stand instead of West Stand tells a story....
