Para Handy
Svlad Cjelli FTR and apropos not very much, there are 247 Loyal Royals at Portman Road tonight.

Agreed Dirk. It's apropos of not very much. I'm not at Portman Road and neither will I be at City. However, having been a Season ticket holder ever since we've been at Madejski and a fan for much longer than that (although I realise that's not really relevant) I would have liked the "reasonable" opportunity to buy a ticket for the Cup game over fans that have not been so loyal. The last two seasons tickets have yielded what.. around 510 points. You wouldn't have had to be a fan for too long to accumulate 600 points. I don't think banding at 1600 to 600 is fair. I'm kind of tired of repeating it though.

To address TFF's points as well. I'd agree that Royalty points system is not fantastic. However, it's the system in place at the moment. Whilst I can see that it may benefit you personally to be able to buy in a wider band, I'd be very pissed off to be one of the fans queuing at the Stadium this morning with more points than your family only to find out that they sold out. FWIW I agree with your point about the 5 year cutoff tho.

I'm guessing that those die hards at Ipswich will all have had the opportunity to buy a ticket and for that I wish them well. No quibbles at all about that.

Agreed PH. The width of the banding was shocking - and I'm sure the club could have squeezed an extra day in (maybe 1,600 to 1,000) seeing as that would have resulted in tickets selling out tomorrow. Although I'm also not at Ipswich, I am going to City (1,680 points without needing to renew my ST). Only had an ST since 05/06 but have more points than some who have had an ST for longer due to attending the glamour away games such as Dag & Red and Torquay.

As for the Ipswich example - I don't really see how it can be compared to the City game to be honest. City is half the price, a lot more glamorous (and potentially historical) and will be easier to get to (Sunday motorway traffic vs M25 in rush hour!!).

T.R.O.L.I. yep, I have no problems with fans like you getting tickets. In my view you are the ones rightfully getting them. What I'm moaning about (yes, moaning) even though I can't go is the disgraceful decision about banding. Have I made that clear to you all? Once it was realised that we wouldn't get more tickets which imho should have been about, er, Wednesday morning, the club should have adjusted the banding. They didn't. I'm sure someone like Turns8 will come on here and explain to me how that isn't a oxf*rd up. Probably in a smug, I've got tickets anyway too.

^ this.

Totally agree with you - some of my mates are in exactly the same position as you. And funnily enough, when the allocation and banding was announced on Friday, it was clear to us in the pub that there was going to be carnage with such a wind range for the second tranche. And that's 4 blokes with no access to the RFC TO database.

Don't even think it's moaning to be honest - if anything, it's the one part of this whole fiasco that the club could easily admit they got wrong (not that they will though).

*no smug-o* BTW.

As predicted Man City have now begun to open the upper tiers.

I'm sure it said something on our OS about them remaining closed!

Whats the craic with the home end then? Where are we all going for? I quite fancy going in the top tier, £17.50 apparently and hopefully less chance of getting head kicked in/kicked out. Which side is closest to the away support? And is it easy to order the tickets? Will they be available for collection at the ground (don't trust the post). Ta.

Alternatively, is there a seperate thread for people going in the home end or would this alert the MCFC authorities to our presence :?

Don't worry. I'm sure some of you will see Matt Mills girlfriend in the away end who doesn't even own a season ticket.

Kes,.. mate. you should be worrying more about your fake tan rather than trying to wind up Reading fans. Not that you're a annoying little pcunt tho.

It's fairly simple to buy tickets - similar but slightly simpler system to the one Reading use. That does mean you need to provide an address, and anything south of Cheshire will probably arouse suspicion... Might be an idea to just buy tickets on the day - I would be surprised if they sold out completely.

So if MAn C had offered RFC a third tier of 3000 seats at £17-50 at a cost of 52500 should they have taken it?

Personally I do not think that we could have sold an additional 3000 seats, possibly another 1200 to 1500

Going by your maths, 1,800 unsold at £17.50 / ticket is £31,500 - not a huge amount in the grand scheme of things considering how much "un-budgeted for" money has been made from the cup run.

And you can add the fact that we get 40% of the money from the sold ones.

Man C are still pcunts tho, and I can see them getting beat on Sunday

So, (1,800 * 17.5) - (1,200 * 17.5 * 40% ) = £23,100

Isn't that around the amount we paid for that bloke from Eastleigh?

Surely it would be sensible for both clubs to have a chat with the safety officer and segregate an area in the upper tier for Reading fans. From a policing and safety point of view I would sooner know the away fans were in 2 areas rather than scattered all round the stadium.
They could call a ticket amnesty where Reading fans exchange their tickets around other areas for this segregated area and also a pay on the day by showing membership card.

There could be almost a full house and a superb atmosphere with 2,800 away fans behind the goal and another 1,000-1,500 in the top tier and both clubs could come away from this by showing they have thought of all of their fans!

Not going to happen I know.

West Stand Man
Thames Very good points Hoop Blah - especially the 7,000 odd we took to Highbury on a cold midweek night.

I'll be in the away end getting behind the team on Sunday and I'm still angry at the club. I dread to think what those who have missed out our thinking.

I think we should also spare a thought for those who were unable to get tickets online in the early hours (perhaps the elderly or less computer literate people) who would have jumped straight on the phone at 9am or worse still arrived at the ticket office.

We should've know something like this was going to happen. Further evidence that Madejski is a great businessman but not the man you want running your football club! Move on John.

That wouldn't be a different Highbury to the one that is much closer than anything in Manchester then would it?

Yes, it would also be the same Highbury where free travel wasn't laid on by the club.

Ironically the club wouldn't even pay for travel home for the players' WAGs after the Arsenal game, as we got on the tube with Shorey and his missus, Sidwell and his missus, and Convey and his Mum.

From the RFC statement

"As a result of the free travel offer, there has been a higher than normal level of demand and our supporters could have bought more tickets, perhaps an extra few hundred, if they were available"

This sort of crap really adds insult to injury, rather like the patronising rubbish about having 3 pay days to save up for a season ticket.

Without the free travel the club would easily have sold 5,000+. The vast majority of 1600+ pointers took a ticket and the remainder were sold between midnight and 00.35, before anyone of the 600+'ers could phone or visit the ticket office. Does the club seriously believe they would have only sold a few hundred more?

Bollocks, pure and simple.

Why can't they just put their hands up and accept they made an appalling, if honest, mistake, apologise and state that they will learn from it in future?

Everyone keeps going on about how we could have sold 5000+ I actually doubt that without the free transport issue this would be possible..

I personally think that we would have struggled to sell out a block of 5000

Well, according to the club, they would have paid for transport for ALL supporters if we could have got more tickets! So we'd have sold the best part of 5k imo.
