Single handedly increased the fan base from 6,000 to 80,000 - what a guy!

Wycombe Royal
Schards#2 The club has, for me, made three bad errors

- Ordering far too few tickets
- Making the second sale band 600-1600
- Selling tickets over the internet from midnight but only at the ticket office from 9.00am

And there are the issues in a nutshell.

The club can defend their decision on the first one (and they have already done so) but the other two are indefensible.

point two is defensible cos at the time they thought they could go back and ask for more, so it would have seriously slowed down the ticket sales of the initial batch which they were trying to sell quickly in order to facilitate getting the next allocation.

there i defended. please take the in, from you defensible.

madreadingfan Simple.. Because our support is shocking away from home so the club didn't think we would sell that much. Did you get a ticket?

Of course I did. I'm the club's number one fan and I'm also 73 years old. 8)

so did I :) so I don't know why were having this debate! I'm just happy I've got some tickets! If the club did oxf*rd up who cares it shows you have to be more loyal to your team to have priority over tickets.

Many people care! We shouldn't have been in the position about arguing about loyalty.

Maybe we could change our song on Sunday to

' we are Reading (most loyal supporters only)
super Reading'

Niko Did anyone actually miss out on buying tickets (even for the home end) that wants some? As i said earlier, My Student Union is selling them for £10.50 each. Me and a mate are buying a couple, and I don't mind buying some for others if they want some and can meet up on Sunday. PM or reply to this post if interested.

erm yes please.

Are you incredibly dense as well as being selfish? The banding that the tickets were on sale at means some "more" loyal fans probably missed out to those "less" loyal.

I don't agree, 600-1600 points is far too wide as a band, expecially considering those that have had a season ticket every season but don't attend many additional matches fall into the 1500 to 1600 point area (like myself) - that is a lot of people.

Paula Martin, chairwoman of Supporters Trust at Reading (STAR), said: “The club has seriously underestimated demand for tickets on this occasion which is a real shame.

“In a perfect world it would be great if the club would take the lot but in reality there are financial ramifications of doing that and therefore unfortunately some supporters will miss out.”

Well, I think we know where STAR stand then.

Financial ramifications my @rse. As has been said time and time again, the money we get JUST FOR THIS GAME means we could have afforded to take a small financial hit, IF we didn't sell all the tickets.

They should try representing the fans' interests to the club rather than the other way around.

How is point two defensible when they should have known from Wednesday morning that they wouldn't get more tickets?

I think the whole nature of the direction this thread has taken sums it up.

Man City, great we'll get 6,000 tickets :D
We've only got 3,000 :(
We'll get more if the demand is there :D
Free travel but no more tickets :D
Got to be up a midnight to get one :|
I got one, I didn't, I did, none for me
How do I get tickets in the home end? :|

Over use of smileys I know!

Angry Royals fans have hit out at the club for failing to request the maximum allocation of tickets for this weekend’s FA Cup quarter-final at Manchester City.

Reading knocked out Premier League Everton 1-0 in the last round to secure a place against big-spending City, whose squad includes world class players like Carlos Tevez, on Sunday.

It is only the third time in Reading’s history that the club has reached this stage of the famous competition.

Fans have condemned the club for taking just 2,800 tickets out of a maximum 15 per cent of the 47,726 capacity of the City of Manchester Stadium – the equivalent of 7,100 tickets – meaning many supporters will miss out.

Season ticket holder Brian Davis said: “Reading FC have made a complete shambles of the ticketing allocation for the Man City game. Did they really think 2,800 would be a sensible guesstimate?

“Judging by the response from fans this was nowhere near enough.”

Supporter Andy Charman added: “Reading FC have rewarded their fans’ loyalty by failing to request sufficient tickets, ensuring they won’t be able to see only our third appearance ever in an FA Cup quarter-final.

“Those responsible for this fiasco need to be brought to book, named and shamed.”

Other fans vented their frustration on Twitter.

One read: “Still in shock Reading have 2,800 instead of full FA Cup allocation what a p*** take,” while another wrote, “Whatever excuses they try and make Reading FC have made a complete b****-up of Man City tickets.”

Reading FC spokesman Craig Morimer-Zhika explained that the club had to make a decision on the allocation of tickets within two days after the draw prior to the Everton game and Manchester City’s previous round win over Aston Villa.

He added this was also before the club had made a decision to provide free coach travel which can affect demand and therefore an allocation of 2,800 was based on the number of fans that had followed the team in the past.

Once travel arrangement were confirmed the club requested more tickets for adjacent areas but these had since been purchased by City fans while other parts of the stadium were dismissed on safety grounds.

Mr Mortimer-Zhika said: “Sunday will be our biggest away attendance in two years.

“That is great support from our fans, and at the same time we fully understand it is very frustrating for anyone who missed out – the club feel exactly the same way.

“Nobody benefits when a supporter misses out on the opportunity to be at a game, we want as many of our supporters with us as possible, which is precisely why we have paid for free coaches for this match.”

The game will be shown live on ESPN, kick off at 4.45pm.

LOL at Craig Mortimer-Zhika thinking we wouldn't even sell 2,800 without the offering the free travel!

I thought the club's excuse for no more tickets ("Mr Safety he say no") was crap. People have been saying for days on Blue Moon that the 3rd tier would open when the rest sold out.

I don't think the club has actually asked for any more tickets, after they made the cockup of offering free travel "to all".

Personally I think that the cock up really came from not telling City/Villa that 2800 should be the initial allocation, with the option for more if the demand was there. City may well have then not started selling tickets next to the Reading allocation. Looking at their forum it looks as though City underestimated demand for this game as well though.
