Tony Le Mesmer A quick comparison with teams in a similar bracket to Reading. By that i mean relegated from the prem recently:

Sheff Utd £359 for the kop, just over £400 for other areas. Under 12s £69

Charlton. Adult prices start at £290 behind the goal, rising to £450 for the best seats. Under 12s £99.

Derby County. Adult Prices start at £270 with most tickets at £355. Under 12s start at £55

Brum £393-£460. £99 for under 12s

Norwich City £366-£398. £85 for Under 12s

You can get an family stand ticket for under 11s for just £10 at Ipswich

You would need to compare us to a team with a similarly sized stadium. Charlton can offer very low ST prices due to having over 30,000 seats available, same with Derby. You then need to take into account geographics and the wealth of the local area too. So it's pretty pointless comparing us to any of those teams.

Hugo Boss Anybody know if they'll be doing that "seat move" thing when you renew??

Anybody any news on this ? I want to move closer to the front if possible or do we have to contact the club after the cut-off date fro renewals

I wouldn't have thought you could move before the renewal period is over for the simple reason that the club would not know which seats were already taken.

And if some people can't afford a season ticket - why not just go to fewer games? Share a seat with a friend? Make cutbacks in other areas of your life (like the rest of us)?

Some people are under the impression that it is some sort of right to watch your local team, no matter what level your income stream is at or how many people you want to sign up.

Well there's no demand for so many seats at Reading...

Depends whether you see your local football club as a pure business or representative of the soul and character of your local community.

I believe in the latter, hence i think prices should be structured to be as inclusive as possible.

I fully appreciate that, but I can see no give from the "it's overpriced camp" even with a substantial reduction in price. All football is overpriced in every league, you can demonstrate, lobby or just simply put up with it if you can afford it. If you can't then you have another choice

Anyone care to address the point regarding the lack of U12 rate now we are back in the CCC? Dirk?

The club doesn't want kids at games.

working class hero I guess that the crunch point [as shown by Platypuss] comes when a family attends. Chatting to a mate today he said he was well happy with the prices - until his wife said she wanted an ST too...

He should tell her to stop her crazy talk!

Surely stadium capacity only comes into it if they stand any chance of filling it. I believe Charlton's average home attendance last season was 23,159! In other words having the bigger stadium did not give them a financial advantage.

Agreed. but sadly very few top professional clubs appear to buy into that theory. That is, until they are in the shyte and then they start to come out with the 'we're part of the local community and we need the community to support us financially, so please come along to our games and bring a friend too.'

Sound familiar?

Kes Cheaper tickets to keep the fans happy as there won't be much investment in the squad.

right again. As mentioned in the EP last night.

If you know anything about possible seat movement options Dirk that would be great also.

When any remaining season tickets go on sale on the 30th June is when you can phone up and move seats. I'm not sure that they'll let you do this if you have already renewed though (as with last year) and that the way to do it is to not renew and then do it on the 30th June.

You can move seats now - provided the seat you're moving to is not a STH seat. Just phone the Ticket Office (it took about less than 5 minutes for them to sort it out for me).

But surely them having a bigger stadium effects how much they charge for a ST. If they aren't filling it regularly then they need to charge less for STs to make them attractive to as many as possible as people will know they'll have no problem getting in due to the size of the ground.

Not 100% I agree with that one, I always was of the opions that we should get as many ST holders as possible, and make day tickets more expensive, but now getting a ST does not save as much as it used to do, in all reality whatever the club do will be wrong.

I think the point is that we will have thousands of empty seats for most games next season as well. If Reading reduced prices more towards Charltons levels then maybe there woudn't be.

You think there may be thousands of empty seat but you don't know that for a fact. Charlton know that they still won't sell out even at their prices.

I think the season ticket prices are fair - I thought they would be highr and have renewed all 4 already (2 kids and 2 adults).

I think the price affects season ticket sales, but i don't think the match price affects individual game sales - I bet this is driven more by the quality of the opposition and our position in the league - i.e. the stadium was full in the prem despite higher prices and when we were top of the champ. Basic supply and demand that!

So, I would reduce season ticket prices (as they have done so) and have a bigger differential betwen match day prices e.g. kid for a quid promos for uninteresting games and higher prices for teams like Leeds (if up).
