Northerners are historically tight fisted, so a football ticket, travel and food money would seem a bit much for 4000 unemployed Yorkshireman. They simply love their football more that toffy nosed Southerners do.
Are you sure?

I remember 400 or so hardy souls coming down to Elm Park to get thumped in the late 80's.

Well, OK , thumped is a bit harsh but they were shit and we beat them 2-1.
Excellent recollection there.

A great day in terms of 'aura' of clubs. Leeds, pre-eminent and a 'major' club; us, very minor, less-'silvered' in most terms, to followers of Leeds, a non-entity. Hence the upset among that (then) small following at having been turned over at Elm Park.

A major part of the vicious joy of following Reading in those days.

Have it. You Yorkshire types.

Leeds is the 4th biggest City in England and a one club City so there support should be big compared to little ole Reading down in 17.

Not altogether sure I'd read too much into that, mate.

The figures are from the ONS census in 2001. For Manchester, it is the population of Manchester itself and not GREATER Manchester.....

The game of the season for me, highest placed team i've seen, in the flesh anyway, and bringing along a few extra people who are coming to their first game at the Mad Stad, one of whom is a Leeds fan. Looking forward to it :)

Barney
No Fixed Abode
fridays child They have. I work with a Leed STH, 7 of his mates have tickets for the North Stand.

How exactly have they managed to do that...when you need a Member card to purchase a ticket ??

I would hazard a guess that they bought a members card... You don't have to live in Reading to get a members card.

You don't even have to have a member card to get a ticket. A member card holder can buy tickets for other people. There's no limit anymore to how many tickets a member card holder can buy nowadays.

I've just noticed that the area below the the big screen in Y26 has been opened for sale. It was previously closed to sale, I'm presuming for safety reasons.

It being opened late will mean that the people sitting there will either be

1) Latecomer Reading fans ie families.

2) Leeds fans

Either of those between Y26 and the main Leeds mob is a security nightmare. Considering the normal nanny nature of the stewarding aound there the above situation is unbelievable.

Well, I wanted to go, but little big brother said 'no' so we're having a family weekend instead. My sister-in-law (married to big big brother) suggested we all went anyway and left little big bro to his own devices, but we decided that wasn't friendly as we haven't seen little big bro for nearly 2 years

I am not sure what the fascination is for the dormant Reading fans to come out and watch Leeds as they have not been a top flight side for a few seasons now.

If Manchester united , Arsenal, Spurs or Liverpool were 6th in the Championship people would view it as an attractive fixture against a big club and a big scalp to take irrelevant of the quality of the side. Leeds United fall into the same category. To beat a 6th placed Donny Rovers, Barnsley or Palace would not quite have the same impact or satisfaction.

When we were in the third flight having moved to the mad stad we were viewed in the same way - and often complained it was difficult for us because everyone raised their game against the so called big boys.

So? As long as they have the sense not to wear colours, and don't draw attention to themselves, what's the problem? I'm happy for them to be putting their money into the club I support.
