Sutekh Agreed, Reading will only have one weekly paper now, the Chronic

Seems odd that an area the size of Reading/Wokingham/Bracknell (they're the supported titles closing) couldn't support a small evening paper covering all 3 towns on a daily basis

Is regional daily news in printed form really still a thing?

There's nothing remotely odd about that.

As with recorded music, there are people who still prefer to have a physical copy of printed matter rather than an online/downloaded experience of the same.

Correct

and are there not still loyal folk around who don't have the technological access to their future offerings?

And, as with the "musical downloads" thing, there are still plenty around who prefer to see the artwork and read the footnotes of the inner sleeves of a cd....a bit like the recently resurgent LP's of yesteryear.

Digital and downloads have their place of course, but they should not be the be all and end all

From a nostalgic perspective, I am certainly sad to see the end of the EP. And whilst times move on - a paper anything becoming largely redundant and digitally replacable - I too, like other posters do feel for the older - non digital - generation who will suffer most from the withdrawal of an important connection and window to society.

I still much prefer to read a newspaper or book in the physical sense rather than 'virutally' but who knows, like the renaissance of the vinyl record, I hope this format will resurface and see the light of day again.

Trully a sad day. But economics being economics, if insufficent units are being sold then that's the game up. Just the way it is. Madjeski got caught cold with his investment in the printing industry a decade ago, so this should really come as no surprise. Likely this is a precursor to more local rags in other areas going the same way.

RIP The Evening Post. I especially take my hat off to The Hound, David Dibben and Steve Thompson. Trully great hacks. Less so to that total to$$er Fordham.

Like my parents. They have had the Post delivered for as long as I can remember (I used to deliver it over 25 years ago) and they don't have a computer or an Internet connection.

I don't think smart phones etc are that smart.

Looking at anything on these things strains my eyes..

Technology for the sake of it.

Bullseye. It just makes jobs for people in the far east, profits for electronics companies, uses up scarce precious metals, and further increases our dependency on electricity. We're building wind farms so our teenage kids can instantly find out how many Lebanese restaurants there are in Huddersfield.

Building wind farms > chopping down rain forests, no?

Building wind farms/burning trees to generate electricity to power hospitals > Building wind farms/burning trees to generate electricity so that little jonny can photograph his bangers and mash, caption it with "yum" and tweet it to all his friends.

Just gone back to having a paper delivered daily, easier than bbc online or telegraph online, I can scan more on a page than online, makes it much easier to decide what to read.
Also having milk delivered again, one thing less to think about.

"Expert" on the radio says that is not about the finances, in fact the paper still sells well. It is an experiment by Trinity Mirror with view to roll it out nationally, it's just unfortunate for the readers of The Reading Post that they have picked on it for closure.

Kind of makes it worse really.

Its not that odd a decision, GetReadings website has quite a visitors so they are piloting where it's already popular.
