PardewsLoveChild Right then, where do i start..................

I can confirm that 2 buses were recked, the 1st one had all it's lights smashed, seats ripped and burned and pissed on,this was the bus that was driven up to the away end with the emg door swinging and the light tubes being thrown out of the window, how do i know this...I was friggin driving it !!!!!!!!!!!

I was sat in the bus station waiting in line to move up to the front when about 60-70 Brizzle fans just ambushed me,there was fook all i could do about it,as someone has said the police just stood there and watched,it took my inspector to barge his way on to the bus to close the doors and tell me just to take them straight to the away end,he got quite a kickin to the legs for his effort and before anyone else asks....no....i did'nt charge them

I just kept my head down and got them to the ground as quickly as i could,i did think about abandoning (sp!!) the bus at one point, this was on the A33 by rose kiln lane but first of all they would have kicked the livin snot out of me if i did, plus the road was quite heavy with traffic at the time so 60-70 Brizzle fans running around in the road may have been a bit of a risk to the other road users  so it was best to keep them on the bus and just get them there and let the police at the ground deal with them.

Did you hear the call during the second half for all coach drivers to return to their vehicle's.....That's also our call to go back to our buses,we normally leave about 10 minutes before the end of the game but as the game had 25 minutes still to go we new something was up.There was a meeting down where the buses park and the bus company wanted to pull ALL of the buses out, leaving ALL fans a long walk back to the train station, but it was agreed with the stewards and police that NO Brizzle nutters would be allowed back on to the vehicles and that's why they were frog marched back to the station on foot.

As for the 2nd bus,he had all his windows smashed but poor John the driver had it alot worse than me,he got alot of abuse and some quite nasty threats, that's why he pulled up by the side of B & Q cause they new the police were waiting for them at the away end and we think they made him pull up there,we haven't seen the poor sod since, off sick !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So there you go,the peril's of being a bus driver!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The terrified look you gave us in the bus next door were unforgettable! i was very glad to have two sets of glass and a bit of air between us.

In a situation like this why don't the police actually get on the buses and travel to the ground with the buses. It seems feasible to my but perhaps too logical. I can understand the logic of getting then away from the town centre as soon as possibly but it does seem crazy to leave a bus driver exposed in such a situation.

The modern police force. As bad as the old one. F'in useless waste of my taxes. Go and arrest some conker players not wearing goggles.

If people are intent on causing trouble, it's pretty difficult to police.

Yes it is. My job's pretty difficult too but I manage to put some effort in. As pointed out, they could have started by accompanying them on the buses and not leaving the drivers by themselves. I witnessed them storming the bus in front of the police and marvelled at how the police could ignore this. Still, as you say, it's a difficult job.

“Apart from one or two serious incidents in the early years we have not experienced this level of criminal damage since 2005, which again involved a small number of Bristol City fans.

When did we play them in 2005?

Why don't they take it out of the ton of money they've made out of us since they started doing these shuttle services?

Presumably they won't go on alone and need to be in pairs, so 2 police per bus plus those to police the stadium and surrounding areas would leave them too stretched.

Don't be daft - they'll put the prices up instead.

The Cube Patrick Hogan, a 40-year-old man from Alston Walk, Caversham, was arrested and charged under Section 4 of the Public Order Act following an incident in Blagrave Street, Reading. He is due to appear at Reading Magistrates Court on 4 March.

Slight side subject, but this new ruling for the police is utter bull shit as well. Basically destroying the trade of a pub because they refuse to bow to police pressure to close the pub, their reasoning being that it is too close to the station and the away fans. Seems utterly ridiculous considering that the pubs 100 yards up the road are where they are forced to drink instead

They should treat oxf*rd like this like they did Millwall and Cardiff back in the late 90s. Make the oxf*rd walk to the ground in a police escort

From todays Bristol Evening Post:-
Anger Over Bristol City Fans' Vandalism
Wednesday, February 25, 2009, 11:03
Bristol City fans are being blamed for damaging two Reading buses leaving repair bills of thousands of pounds.
Reading Buses boss James Freeman said discussions had started with the Bristol City FC surrounding who would cover the £4,000-plus cost for the damage.
The vandals, believed to have been drinking at The Three Guineas pub at the railway station in Reading, smashed windows and lights on two Number 79 buses, leaving broken glass scattered along the road. The incident before the Reading - Bristol City game on Saturday is the second time visiting City fans have damaged football buses travelling to the Madejski Stadium.Norman Fryer-Saxby, bus services manager for the Goldline division of Reading Transport, which provides the football service, said he was appalled. He said: "We have been building up these services since 1998 when the stadium opened.
"We enjoy a great relationship with the Reading fans and indeed most away supporters."Sadly a small group have damaged the reputation of Bristol City FC, injured our inspector and put our drivers and members of the public at risk."He added: "I understand a police unit was filming the incidents and five arrests were made, so we hope charges and convictions will follow. "We shall be talking to the CEO of Bristol City FC following a meeting with Reading FC and the police." Chief Inspector Les Stone of Reading police operations said: "Of the 4,300 Bristol City fans who came to Reading the vast majority were well behaved and co-operative, but unfortunately the actions of a few seem to have marred their reputation. "We have an excellent working relationship with Reading Buses and Reading Football Club and investigations into Saturday's incident are continuing."

Bristol City spokesman Adam Baker said: "As a club we fully support any police action that is taken and in due course we will look to ban any supporter from Ashton Gate who is proved to have been involved. The club has already passed on its best wishes to the inspector in the incident."

In some respects yes - but when i see 12 coppers swanning around outside the Jazz Cafe it seems the police support is not too stretched to get into a meatwagon and go and give additional support where it is effectively needed.

You can always tell where the trouble is because you see vanloads of coppers heading as fast as they can in the opposite direction.... last thing you want when you are on a nice bit of over time is to actually do any work.
