What was with the increased police presence today?

At one point there were two police officers stood next to the disabled area in Y21.

When we are supposedly so hard up, why the hell are the club wasting money paying for police to be stood in the home stand at what would appear a very low risk game?

As if the club get to decide how many police are required. That's down to Thames Valley's finest.

There were 3 police officers outside by the safety gate just before half time yesterday when I went out there - not sure what they were there for. I saw the bloke in Y26 front row get thrown out - even if he did shout out something at the player, the reaction to it was way over the top - a steward could have just asked him to mind his language. Other fans see a bloke get thrown out for that and they're going to react. Stewards are lucky the majority of our fans are a lot more laid back than the actual stewards are.

Steward number 19 spent a lot of his time watching the game again - AND he always stands in the way by the tunnel when I leave to go to the loo 3minutes and 30 seconds before the end of the first half.

Not sure that, when it comes to presence inside the ground, you are completely correct on that. What's more, even if it is, the club can challenge that decision, just as the organisers of the Reading Festival did a while back.

Quite frankly I prefer stewards who watch the game rather than spent their time creating hassle for law abiding supporters!

They were the same as those in Y21, Y26 and Y23 as I understand.

sounds like they get around a bit. You can be sure they were after a specific person then.

There's the initial risk assessment before each match, which involves the Football Intelligence Officers (FIOs) responsible for both sets of supporters - from that comes a police recommendation for the level of police presence within the footprint of the ground (which the club pays for) and off the ground (which they don't [*]).

You're right that a club can diasagree with that, but it would be a very Safety Officer who ever did that, because the police will always talk about intelligence they have which justifies their recommendation, and if the club ever reduced numbers and it did kick off then the Safety Officer would get the blame.

[*] There's an ongoing police campaign to get full recovery of policing costs from football clubs - i.e. costs of police in town centres, at stations and on trains. That is being fiercly resisted by the entire football industry, supporters' organisation and anyone who doesn't want to hand the police a blank cheque.

Not sure - I don't think so, though. Certainly the FIO travels but not many more do, and that may be just for specific evidence gathering, etc.

Evidence/intelligence gathering is a mean to an end though is it not. Putting familiar faces to an offence committed is a very rare event with our support, if at all.

Minimum 3 or 4 TVP at most away games, not sure exactly what "intelligence" or "evidence" they wish to gather. The club holds records of who has bought tickets for away games and CCTV in the ground will identify what clothes people are wearing should there ever be an incident evidence is required for.

All in all, TVP are a joke.

No way, BF had trouble with his flag at Torquay, the nearest he got to an incident was with the tasty lass on the TQ terrace.
