melonhead im guessing Cat 1 status is several years away at least then?

Not necessarily - this is about consolidating the facilities on one site - as far as I can tell the building of the new pitch behind the dome, and the dome itself tick a lot of the "facilities" boxes needed for CAT1.
I suspect that the dome and new pitch will be "replicated" on the new site once it's built...

Does the assessment for Cat 1 take into account the success of our academy as it is? For example, will the good form of our U21s, U18s and U16s over recent seasons, plus Alex McCarthy's full England call up stand us in good stead?

No, it's an ISO accreditation on how well it meets the defined standard -ie. number of pitches, number of coaches and qualifications, standard of facilities etc, etc. Past performance isn't relevant to that.

Cobi
winchester_royal Thought Anton wrote very well in the programme for last night's match. He's clearly got a long-term vision in mind, which is nice to see, and there seems to be plenty of ambition behind his words. Obviously we'll find out whether he walks the walk this summer...but given the concerns over whether we were getting another foreign owner who couldn't really give a shit when he first came in - I think we can now say with reasonable confidence that we're in safe hands.

The thing is, too many simple minded fans will expect to see something like £5m-£7m spent on transfers, otherwise they'll call Anton out. It wont be like that!

The bigger picture is keeping this squad, or as much of them as possible together, and then add a couple of new faces for whatever cost.

Well yes, but the REAL bigger picture is the Academy.

Agreed and the excellent showing of the U18 is something to be yelled about from the highest perch. Trouble is no-one does, even BBC Berks didn't give the Fulham game a mention on Sunday.

TBF, all Dellor cares about is his Adkins bashing.

Didn't know where to put this as it doesn't deserve it's own thread, but it's nice to see the club now starting to acknowledge and show some pride in the clubs past, rather than appear embarrassed by it since the move to Madejski Stadium. Who'd have thought we had a past pre 1998?

Nice touch!

If there was a like button on Hob Nob, I'd be hitting it for Sparta's post. Cracking picture there.

This is an old photo (1913) that would look good somewhere in the club.

I wonder how many Nobbers' (Great) Grandads are in there....?

Hats were obviously an essential fashion accessory of the time! Can't see any replica shirts though.

Given it was taken in 1913 it's probably an actual pre season team photograph.... Big squads in those days but then they needed that to cater for the fact the balls were made out of nailed together leather coated concrete.

Anyone know what "Twice Nightly" would have been advertising?

I presume the local evening paper - or maybe a music hall show.

Can't work out out what the half-letter to the left of the shot is. Closest to a C or E, but they're different in the Twice Nightly text. Cracking photo RR.

Great pic. I had a discussion a year or so ago with someone about why men's hats died out, yes I am that boring.

The consensus appeared to be that following the advent of Brylcream and men wanting an actual hairstyle, blokes stopped wearing hats. If there are any other takers on that theory I would be glad to entertain it.

I always thought it was when cars got smaller (too small to wear a hat in) and more and more people started using them - but common lore says "Kennedy killed the hat" when he was the first US president who didn't wear one and it caught on from there.

Yes, the car theory was ruled out in my discussion but the Kennedy one is one I haven't heard.

Like nearly everything in life - and absolutely everything on HNA? that someone thinks they know exactly the reason for - it's probably a combination of lots of different factors.

Yes, although there is usually one theory that is more dominant or has more sway. I'm sticking with the hairstyle one.
