Royal Lady Was the idea from a bloke off here who was posting about having more places for flowers by the remembrance wall?

In any case, I think it's a lovely idea and as I said the other day, the club didn't HAVE to do it - so I'm not sure why people are moaning. :|

Agree.

The idea came about because the requests to bury ashes under the pitch were becoming too many and the club did not want to dig up the stands for more room

For about 18 months there has been nowhere for ashes so the club chaplain and someone who attends the Friday prayer meeting at the stadium asked the club for an area to create a garden. So this has taken a lot of perseverence and effort on their part and is now a reality with the help of the club giving the ground and doing the hard work to make it possible to make a garden. As well as donations of plants and money there has also been donations of the fencing and the paving as well as a large plaque from local businesses.

It now has an area of lawn, a tree and a lot of immature plants that given time will create a peaceful area with 2 benches to sit on (one given by the parents of the Academy lad who died canoeing in Wales in his memory).

Question Re: Elm Park

How did the club deal with disposing of the football pitch/ashes underneath?
If the ashes were scattered, then they would have been lost to the skip unless they were buried in their urn and possibly returned to their family? I only ask because you tend to scatter them at a final resting place, but it wouldn't have been in this case.

Ian Royal So you prefer a tarmaced road, iron railings and tree / bushy verge backdrop to an unmade road, wooden fence and the training dome backdrop.

Big woop of difference. The Leicester one only looks nicer because you can see the prettiness inside.

It has also happened because one man has put hours and hours of work into making it happen and a very small number of people have made donations of money or plants. Judging by the look of it yesterday and given it is still new and the plants are not established, it could become a pleasant place to sit and the wooden fence means you can sit in peace without looking at the car park :D

If you think it should be better I am sure he would welcome help in keeping it watered and weeded. Gardens do not keep pretty all on their own.

I was defending it, and it's a bit far to come from Cambridge to do a bit of gardening. Especially when I'm shit at it and not really interested in it.

Fair play to who ever put in the work or made the donations. And well done to the club for accomodating it.

Royalshow It's a good idea yes, but as usual the execution is shocking.

Not sure anyone has been executed just to have their ashes sprinkled there m8.

Tails Would make all the difference if they had some form of foliage covering the wooden fencing.

That takes time - unless you can buy fencing with foilage already grown around it!

Kind of my point. With some time and good governance, it could end up to be not only a good idea, but a good idea well done.

10/10 for the concept and the club doing something. However, minus several million for the execution.

Why would anyone want their ashes scattered there?
If you can't have them scattered on the pitch anymore, why settle for 100 yards away?
You may as well be a 100 miles away.

Well how many photographs of a fenced off area do you need before you can tell its a fenced off area?

Its inevitably just a token gesture that means nothing and everything to the person/relatives.

Pretty handy tbf. Parking by graveyards isn't always the best.
