TBM
melonhead its a decent players wages for a year.

we got rich owners now, we shouldn't have to worry about this :D

you dont get rich by throwing half a million quid a year away

If you're making say a million a year then it would technically be possible :?

I don't have a problem with them being there, but financially its an extra revenue stream.

TBM
melonhead pitch looks beautiful thi year, no problem with the irish playing- nice extra revenue stream for the club.

If what is said above, then £500k is hardly anything these days

it's the equivalent of a 10k a week player, so yes, it is still a significant sum of money today.

Aren't they known as the 'Not Not's' as in Not London and Not Irish.

who cares about a clubs history, right no fixed abode? after all, chelsea's only started when roman abromovich came along...?

Also known as The Exiles, London Irish RFC was founded in 1898 for the young Irishmen of London; it was modelled on the already established London Welsh and London Scottish teams. London Irish suffered during World War I and the Irish War of Independence. It was not until 1923 when the Irish Free State was established and peace returned that the club was able to welcome players from across the Irish Sea on a regular basis.

fwiw, london irish's contract with madejski stadium runs until 2026.

oh I know the reason. Financially it's good for the Irish to have a team over here but not so for the English to have a team over there..

Never knew the Irish benefitted from the English economy before.

Why do they never announce how many English trained horses have won at Cheltenham?

Have you ever been to Cheltenham during the festival? It is an Irish town for the duration - hence the interest in Irish success.

I used to have a season ticket for the egg-chasing, now I barely go at all (twice in the three years or something), but they may as well stay, just cos we have money doesn't mean we shouldn't bring in more.
On the name issue, two other London clubs are simply known as Harlequins and Saracens, and the Welsh teams are just known by there nicknames nowadays. So they should just call themselves "Exiles", lose the embarassing "not nots" tag but still keep their heritage.

London Welsh still exist and play in London, as do London Scottish. They may not be in the premier league but they are still there.
