If people sit in the seats or not the club still gets the cash. 36,000 is a bit big, but we don't know the details of the planning permission, so it may be 'up to' that figure.

Current capacity from official site 24161 + proposed increase 12400 = 36561. Maybe one day

18,000 at the last home game. Would be half empty if they expanded to 36k.

IMO. The club would be better improving what they've got. Fill in the the 'floating roof' gap, to improve acoustics. Improve the concourse areas. Improve the catering.

And reduce the prices to try to get more people in through the doors. Nobody wants to watch football in a half-empty stadium and extra bums on seats means increased merchandise and food sales.

SLAMMED The attendance they announce is calculated on tickets sold though, not how many people are actually at the game.

Only at the back end of the season were there a few games where STH's decided to stay at home though. You look at the previous two Premiership seasons as well and it was only away fans that'd let us down. We should definitely build onto the East Stand. The rest can wait.

It doesn't really matter. The club has a reason for it and it makes no difference to our lives.

Perhaps because they reviewed the terms of the application as they were up for renewal and wanted to vary the conditions but needed more time to finalise the new condition?

If it was a truly serious issue they'd surely be asking for a longer extension than a week.

I'm only asking because I want to understand.

We'll see if the explanations given were correct, at some stage, I suppose. Thank you.

Exactly. Why do our fans look for a conspiracy with everything, or feel they need to know the reason for everything? Think back a little, Anton said the club would renew the planning permission, and he also said the plans in place may change, and they appear to have done so.

Just seems odd that they only want a week's grace before signing the forms - they must have known when it was up for renewal and known what changes they wanted to make - still, I'll bow to everyone else's better "knowledge" and lack of worrying....

The report that went to the RBC Planning Committee is available via this page - http://www.reading.gov.uk/meetings/details/3584/

The newspaper report is a little misleading but it is quite a complex matter. The Council's report explains that the original 2007 permission to extend was renewed in 2010 and is due to run out this coming November. The renewal contained a number of conditions. It looks like RFC want to proceed with part of the permission, the upgrading of the Outside Broadcast Unit, before the November deadline but don't want to be constrained by the conditions originally imposed until they proceed with the rest of the permission. It would appear that, in agreeing to this, the council is insisting that RFC agree to some additional (replacement/interim?) conditions and that these have to be agreed by 23rd September.

it says it in the article youve linked to RL

please do try and read it before going all oxf*rd david icke on us

Its application involves a variation of one condition.

The changes, which involve engineering works, are to ease the phasing of the development, particularly the new outside broadcast unit area.

IIRC they had to do some modifications to Hurst Way first before doing anything else, so it makes sense they wouldn't want to do that if they just want to build some new OB area.

Plans for the media area are detailed on RBC Planning website. This link may work... http://documents.reading.gov.uk/AniteIM ... sults.aspx

That is a pretty shoddy set of documents and drawings it has to be said. You'd think they'd be able to spell the name of the stadium right every time.

Interesting link G'La. It looks like it's just a parking area behind the SE corner with some walls built and presumably some fencing to make it into a compound.

In the application text it says:

"In November 2012 the Premier League amended their rules relating to media access and specification for stadium.
The Premier League will work with all Clubs to assess existing facilities and their plans to implement the new rules but the new rules are extensive and relate to: television cameras, dedicated rooms for broadcasters, mixed media zones, dedicated car park spaces and the location of that Outside Broadcast Compound (OBC). The rules also relate to radio and photography and the requirements to accommodate overseas broadcasting companies. As an example for a Premier League match televised live and in 3D, 33 cameras would be required and an additional 8 3D cameras. All of these will require multimedia and power connections provided by the Club"

And that, I think, is the essential difference from the initial application - 3D means a lot more space is required in the compound for a couple of extra lorries, so that needs to be incorporated into the amended application.
