Stadium naming rights

by Coppelled Streets » 07 Feb 2007 13:57

We discussed this back in the Championship a few seasons ago. Around the time that Coventry moved into their new ground and sold off their naming rights for something like £1m a year for so many years.

Now with Liverpool looking to sell off their naming rights for the new stadium, will Reading look to do the same thing?

Now we're in the Premiership, we could receive quite a large chunk in sponsorship per season. More if you're deemed a 'big club', or a top 6 club.

I wonder now if opinions have changed?
Do you think it'd be selling our soul?
Would the chairman not do because it's his name over the house?

The money we can generate would be a couple of very good signings per season and that's without dipping into what ever budget we currently lay out.

For the record, I would very much be in favour of such an idea.

Agreed, I couldn't care less what the stadium is called. Had we still been at Elm Park with all that tradition, then it would be different. But now with the modern souless stadiums, it really doesn't matter anymore.

Same with Liverpool. They'll never rename Anfield, but it makes sense to give the new stadium a commerically sponsored name.

As long as we get back what we paid Wolves for him I won't be too upset

It's named after the Chairman, I'm not sure he'd want to sell the naming rights as it will be saying his name is worth less than £x million and that he can be bought.

The Stadium is already named. Do you think Madejski named it after himself because it was a good name?

It's probably bullshit because the Chairman has got quite a big ego but.........

........apparently he didn't want the stadium named after him, it was decided for him.

He named it after his adoptive father.
(after failing to get anyone to pay for sponsorship allegedly)

No way should it be changed.

John Madejski has taken this club to a level we once never believed possible. His name on the stadium is his enduring legacy to the club.

Leave well alone, imho.
