Bottle tops

by Gordons Cumming » 17 Sep 2008 10:44

How long has it been against the rules to take plastic bottle tops into the arena? I've seen no signs.
Stewards are instructed to confiscate them. Can you get them back after the match if you've still got a half empty bottle?

Are they afraid they will be used as missiles?

I don't get it.

For as long as I can remember.

I would imagine so - ask a steward next time

Both as a missile (if refilled with water from the taps in the toilets) and also a health and safety hazard during an evacuation - if you stand on a bottle without a top on it you will crush it. If you stand on a bottle with a top on it you will more than likely fall over.

However, I have seen people walk through the turnstiles with bottles without tops on and then retrieve the top from their pocket once safely inside the stadium. Not that I would condone such actions...

I was having my bottle tops taken away last season and couldn't understand it either.

Yesterday, I heard someone else complaining to a steward about it and the reply was that with the top on, the bottle was more likely to hurt someone than if the top was off...presumably if it was full as well.

Thanks T.R.O.L.I.

It is all very clear to me now.

Make sense.

The club could communicate it better though with clear signage.

I've always got a spare in my purse. Just put it on when I get to the seat so the kids can have a drink when they want and I don't have to hold it all flippin' game.

At QPR a few years ago had the top taken away.

Went to the refreshment kiosk where she sold me a bottle of pop, with the top on!!

Been taking spare tops into Mad Stad etc ever since.

Like about 600 people on this thread have already said they do :-S

Mankind has endured for thousand of years, people have lived without healthcare, through war, disease, and famine. Yet now we might get offed by a bottle top.

lol@modern society. Is there someone somewhere who invents thigns to worry about?

They've been doing it for a fair while now. I just put the bottle top in my pocket. Or my bottle in my jeans waistband covered by a loose top.

I dont understand how someone could get caught out more than once by it anyway. Happened to me once, from then on just stuck the top in my pocket, never had a problem since.
So its really not a big deal

It's got to last until at least 75 mins into the game.

No way are we going to pay the prices at the kiosks.

No such problems at Watford, I noted today. Nor do they have a safety gate to separate the away fans from the home fans. Nor do most places I've been to, to be fair.
