Free Ipswich ticket

by Irvinchangeyaname » 04 Sep 2009 13:58

....now I remember why I didn't renew my season ticket.

How many times do they need to do this before I'm better off not getting a season ticket?

Er, it's not exactly free. You still have to buy a ticket for the Leicester game.

I don't give a shit really. Rather sit in a 19k crowd than a 16k one etc.

When STAR asked about this we were assured that it will never be cheaper to buy individual tickets than a season ticket - they keep track of the offers and they will not bring the cost of 23 games below an ST, and they are trying to give other benefits to ST holders but are very aware that cost is the first of their criteria.

I was going to buy a Leicester ticket anyways so it's free, Shirley?

But what percentage of season ticket holders actually manage to get along to all 23 games, particularly given the way the tv companies bugger around with the dates and times?

I recognise that there is probably an extremely fine balance/tolerance between the competing interests and the club are doing their very best to hit that spot. However, I suspect if they work on the 23 game principle they may well miss it and see even lower season ticket sales in the future.

At the end of the day I guess there are two ways to work towards filling a ground a) reduce ticket prices for both season tickets and pay per game b) play attractive football and/or be sat at the top of the table. Once again there is probably a fine balance that needs to be struck between those potentially conflicting objectives too!

No, because you can't get the Ipswich ticket for free without shelling out £24 for the Leicester ticket. It just simply means £12 for each ticket.

This sort of deal is one of the reasons I did not get a s/t this year.

I knew I would be away for a couple of games anyway and this allied with the potential of one or two bogof's throughout the year made for an easy decision.

I think a lot more people will be following suit next season.

£22.50 a home game if bought online, in advance

23 games @ 22.50 = £517

Our season ticket renewal was what, £425

(517 - 425) /22.50 = 4 free games

If I have the prices right, then if you go to every game they would have to do it 5 times for you to be better off not buying a season ticket.

This is also assuming that the only benefit or reason people have a ST is cost. It isn't.

Gotta love the folk that brag about cheap train travel to away games, but bitch about RFC trying to sell available tickets.

Or as other people have said, you miss one or two, then they only have to do it one more time and you'd be better off not stumping up all the cash for your ST. To me that is the bigger issue, if you buy more than one ST then why bother in future finding a significant amount of cash up front when if you don't you can pick and choose your games, get offers and probably end up spending less.

I like to look at it this way: I've spent the money. It's gone. But I still have 21 free games to go to this season. And you lot who haven't got an ST only have the occasional freebie.

I buy a season ticket to guarantee my seat which I have sat in since reserved seating came in. Not because of cost. Also season ticket holders who renewed early have got a free ticket for a game before christmas anyway.

Also we are not the only team doing deals. This is an interesting offer Leicester are doing:
Leicester City Football Club have launched their Midweek Season Ticket offer.

The new initiative starts with the Peterborough fixture on Tuesday September 15th and ends on March 23rd against Reading.

The Midweek Season Ticket, includes five Tuesday evening games as follows:

Tuesday 15 Sept v Peterborough

Tuesday 20 Oct v Crystal Palace

Tuesday 8 Dec v Bristol City

Tuesday 9 Feb v Doncaster Rovers

Tuesday 23 March v Reading

The Midweek Season Ticket pricing starts at just £69 for Adults, £55 for Seniors, £50 for the Under 22's and £35 for the Under 18's.

£69 for 5 games seems a good deal.

Wonder are their season ticket holders moaning about this. - probably

The club has always done deals to sell seats when we do not have a full stadium

I often bought 3 got a 4th free

If you are going to miss a couple of games a season then yes, there is a possibility that buying individual match tickets could work out cheaper.

So this needs to be considered when buying your season ticket, not 4 months later

You also need to consider

1/ you are not guaranteed your preferred seat
2/ there is no guarantee what promotions the club will run, they may be for games you would have missed anyway.

i don't recall ST holders worrying about a seat when we made the Prem, i do recall the clamour for half St's in oct 2005, and the disgust that meant that loads of plastics and man u fans were buying them up.

HSSC, I'm a supporter since 1979 and bought a half season ticket just before we went up. And like before, I've gone back to pay per game because I get to choose where I sit. Not all HST holders are plastics my friend.
