WC 2014 2nd round Netherlands vs Mexico

by Flyingkiwi » 29 Jun 2014 17:20

Just kicked off. I think the Netherlands will be too strong but can sit back and enjoy the game as a neutral as both teams have been playing some entertaining football so far. Early minutes see Mexico going forward.

Nigel De Jong subbed off after 8 minutes. :?:

First quarter has been, pretty much, all Mexico. They really should be ahead by now (But they aren't. Still 0 - 0).

Just enjoyed my first official drinks break - did they stop the clock?

The clock runs on but there is added time.

This is probably the most boring game ever

Bit of excitement there as the Mexican fucks up in the centre of the field and allows the Dutch to make one of their few penetrative forays into Mexican territory that end up with Robben appealing for a penalty and a Mexican stretchered off.

Agreed! It's been bollocks so far. I assume it must have something to do with the heat (As, I suppose, was De Jong's substitution). Everyone seems to be doing everything at half pace.

The Dutch goalkeeper is absolute banter to watch though.

Stupid idea playing in such a hot climate. Doesn't make for exciting football.

Apparently in training yesterday, the Dutch calculated that in this game each player will lose 4L of fluid

Set-pieces may be the best opportunities the Dutch. They don't look capable of doing anything else.

Stadium seems half empty. Maybe the locals knew it was going to be a shit match.

THAT was close though! Reaction save.

The Dutch seem to have found an extra gear.

The ITV commentary team are saying it's too hot sit for any time in the lower tiers in the direct sun, the rest of the stadium in the shade is ok.

Aside from that brief flurry of chances, it looks so far like the Dutch are going out with a whimper.

Hope not

While naturally I like the Dutch, Mexico were looking very good. Will be gutted for them if they miss out

If this goes to extra-time, they'll all be walking by the end of it.

5 minutes to go.

PENALTY!!!!!
