Anyone remember the last tournament where England had a drab 0-0 in the 2nd group game where the visitors were determined to beat us?

Believe the position now is this

If England beat Wales they win the group

If England draw with Wales they will still qualify for the round of 16, however whether it’s as group winners or group runners up will be determined by the result between Iran and the US.

If England lose to Wales by less than 4 goals then England will qualify as group runner up

Same thing with most football fans though isn’t it? Look at Stam under us and how quickly he was under pressure after his first season which was very successful

Don’t agree with it mind and the 0-0 draw today only mirrors the Scotland one in the last Euros (which ended in a final). It’s hard to maintain a high level 7 games straight so the important thing is if you can’t win the game, don’t lose it (Argentina and Germany here)

Sutekh Utterly abysmal, continually turning attacks into defence, passing accuracy is dreadful. Pathetic pressing. It’s a bit like watching Reading

The Southgate interview was like listening to Stam or Paunovic.

Same starting 11 for Wales I suppose. Except he might play Phillips in place of Bellingham. That would be Southgate to a T.

Phillips shouldn't be near the squad

Our 1-1 looked a bit more respectable now. :D
On a serious note the stats look pretty pathetic for England.

Defensive and negative tactics, poor selection, late and incomplete subs.

Southgate would be the perfect Reading manager.

Yawn boring boring England.

Yanks should have won that. By far the better team.

They’ll be kicking themselves.

US more than matched Englands work rate (the English USP) and passed it far better and far quicker.

Not impressed.

Yes it’s unbelievably bad for England if ITV show their games live. If ITV are showing a game then the chances are high that England will not win and that the performance will be largely dismal. Thankfully the BBC have the Wales game but that’ll mean ITV will do the round of 16….

Since 1986 England’s group game results tally as per below (includes this year’s World Cup to date)

ITV

W - 1 (v Trinidad in 2006)
D - 8
L - 3

BBC

W - 10
D - 2
L - 2

If you add in the knockout rounds from 1998 onwards (the knockout games for England in 1986 and 1990 were shown simultaneously live on both BBC and ITV so little point in their inclusion) then it gets even more bleak for ITV with the BBC returning 3 wins from 5 games to 0 win and 3 draws from 5 on ITV - though ITV did cover the one time England did manage a penalty shoot out win at a World Cup finals (v Columbia in 2018).

So it would probably be best for England if ITV lost all interest in showing any football whatsoever.

England didn’t play badly. This game was simply the result of global factors, not least the effects of the pandemic and Putin's illegal war in Ukraine.

It's as if the team are affected by the terrible quality of the tv coverage
