Well the only thing we can be certain of at the moment is that it won't be hosted by England.

2034 really should be Australia and New Zealand (or might they get 2030)?

Australia have publicly talked about bidding for 2030 but have never submitted an official bid. I think this month might* be the deadline.

ASEAN lads would make a good fist of it but the rest of that list looks pretty :|

At least with the African ones you'd be on a sensible timezone I guess, Australia New Zealand would be a nightmare.

Would have thought Egypt and Nigeria out of it with Morocco's involvement in 2030.

It'll go to the Saudis. There's surely little doubt, is there? Australia would be a terrific host, but the whole world would have to watch whilst at work or at night.

Agree that Saudi are probably odds on favourites.

They worked the timings when it was in Japan and S. Korea.

I still remember getting up early, going to school and watching England lose to Brazil.

That was the year they could’ve won it if they had gotten past Brazil.

Aus/NZ won't massively work because you are cutting off most of South and North America from watching it at any sort of decent time, unless you are on the West Coast. FIFA won't want the WC directly after the North American one to be almost unwatchable for people there.

On a 4 game day cycle - you would be looking at games starting at 12pm, 3pm, 6pm and 9pm local time

For Europe/UK that would equate to roughly 5am, 8am, 11am and 2pm (hour later for us on the continent) - not bad but not great due to being in the middle of the working day.

For most of South America, looking at 1am, 4am, 7am and 10am

Eastern Time in the North America - midnight, 3am, 6am and 9am

Pacific Time - 9pm, midnight, 3am, 6am.

Is football one of those things that people still watch live or would these areas simple catch-up on the games at a more convenient time to them rather than getting up in the middle of the night to watch?

Catch up would help but then you have the joy of trying to avoid the score - as, for me at least, watching a game of football where I know the result is just dull.

I'm like you on that. With all the available sources for finding out the score it is certainly getting harder to avoid knowing the result before catching up on a game. Always makes me think of that Likely Lads episode with Brian Glover in when they were trying to avoid the England score.

Least that explains why watching Reading has been so dull for the last few years.

Yep. 2030 ticks off Europe, Africa and South America all in one go simply so that 2034 can go to Saudi.

In evidence that FIFA is perhaps even more bent than it ever was even under Blatter, emerging now that coincidentally FIFA's stadium criteria for World Cup bids have been loosened in the final 'hosting requirements' set out last week, from seven already existing and eligible stadiums, to four.
