CountryRoyal I just don’t get women’s football. The standard, although drastically improving, is abysmal.

You could put a non league fully grown male goal keeper in and that team would instantly become the best team in the world.

Using a League 1 team's football forum to criticise an unrelated football team for not being at the best level of football

Given RR's past posts on the subject, it's a fair assumption he's taking the piss out of countryroyal.

The Colombians were overly physical against Ireland in a pre tournament warm up game, to the point where the Irish basically walked of the pitch!

England may well be facing them in the Quarter Finals (if we beat Nigeria)........

As for the argument about men v women, there is no argument.

Reading men's professional team would destroy England women's professional team.

The US Women's team (Megan Rapinhoe et al) played the FC Dallas U15's in a friendly - and got hammered 5-2 by the boys; they have tried to get all copies of videos posted on YouTube of the game taken down as it totally destroys their argument that men and women football players in the US should get the same pay.

But that would be the same in ANY sport where there is physicality; men are generally physically stronger than women, and that is irrelevant to the argument about Women's football; it is entertaining and they do play some great stuff.

Yeah, the English commentary for the game was like ‘yeah, they’re all taking turns to have a go at the German midfield, so none of them are getting a yellow’.

Ref was basically doing that thing where you don’t give an individual player a yellow for their first yellow offence, which Columbia interpreted as ‘we can get 10 yellow card fouls in before we get a yellow’.

As a result the Germans kept pulling out of one on ones, and jumping in the air to avoid career ending injuries from Columbian challenges, which in the men’s game players wouldn’t have done, and received free kicks and cards for the opposition as a result.

Some of them were really obvious too. Columbian forward reaching out a hand to put the German keeper off balance, whilst the keeper was in the air to claim the ball, so she landed on her arms not her feet. Columbian forward didn’t even jump to challenge for the ball, just deliberately reached out and tipped the keeper off balance.

What I like about the women’s game is that it is less ‘professional’ and more ‘sporting’. Fewer tactical fouls, time wasting, diving etc.

The one exception is Columbia. Which is why I hope they all get shot by the cartels when they crash out of the knockout rounds.
