Does 2 EPL clubs in EC final make up for England's failure?

by SpaceCruiser » 30 Apr 2008 10:40

I read somewhere that the European Cup final being dominated by English clubs would make up for England's failure to reach Euro 2008. Do you feel the same way? I don't feel that way. I mean, the clubs in the European Cup final may be from EPL, but I don't support them. I'd rather England win Euro 2008 than Man Utd, Chelsea or Liverpool win the European Cup.

Euro 2008 would have been much better if the four national teams from around the British Isles that finished 3rd all had finished 2nd.

Not really. England shows we have good English players. Champions League shows we have a excellent league. I'd prefer England in Euro 08

Nowhere close for me.

If anything it makes it worse. It shows that our club side, and the player in them are good enough to compete at the highest level of club competition and to have a decent amount of success. The fact that we can't harness those same individuals abilities to qualify for the finals of a tournament we could realistically have a chance of winning is very disappointing.

The following English players have all played their parts in successful CL campaigns this season

Wes Brown
Owen Hargreaves
Rio Ferdninand
Michael Carrick
Wayne Rooney
Ashely Cole
John Terry
Frank Lampard
Joe Cole
Wayne Bridge
Shaun Wright-Phillips
Jamie Carragher
Steven Gerrard
Peter Crouch
Theo Walcott

It seems a such a shame we can't add a few players to that to get a way of succeeding with the national team.

No, but at least it only means we'll be bored to tears for just 90 mins (or poss 120) then for 2 weeks.

220 English players have played in the Premier League this season so far.

Personally I couldn;t give a toss either way but all it shows is the strength at the top end of the Premiership, especially when you consider no English clubs really excelled in the EUFA Cup.

Interesting thought though, it must surely be the first time in Champions League history that all the representatives from one country avoided being knocked out by a side from another country.

Grrrr, it's the UEFA Cup, not EUFA! But I agree with your point, it does show that the sides below the big 4 in the Premier League are so far behind.

I would rather win the Euro2008, or qualify at the least. CL just shows clubs finanical strength.

Quite frankly I don't give a flying one about the Champions league final.
Why should any Reading supporter?

As an England fan I am more concerned that we failed miserably to qualify for Euro2008 and the fact that Fat Frank, Gerrard, Rooney etc let us down badly!
