Hoping for a Slovak win as I lived there for a year and a half. If they don't win this they're out.

The old college bar manager (RIP) had one international cap - a World Cup qualifier for NZ in the 1970s.

I've seen countless displays that have amounted to less than what the Los Kiwis have shown over the first quarter-hour

Now for the next five :|

This isn't bad game with both sides trying to go forward which is a welcome change from some of the dross seen thus far in tis World Cup. Weiss for the Slovaks looks very useful.

Always the case in the first round of group games, you just can't afford to lose so everyone plays it super cagey, unless you've got a good team v a rubbish one like the Germany game. It's the same in every tournament and the biggest surprise is that everyone always forgets this and moans about the early games every two years.

Agreed - will start getting interesting tomorrow when the 2nd round of games start and teams can either see the 2nd round or the plane home...

What Silveaultx sed

Most compelling stuff so far has been Germany, South Korea and Japan-Cameroon --not great, and only one side turned up for the final 80 minutes of the first one, but there you go

In the here and now, one senses that any sentimental favouritism toward NZ will end in ♥break this afternoon

Two men in blue, including Vittek the goalscorer, marginally offside when Sestak sent the cross in

A raised flag would've been just, but 1-0 anyway

Same as, had Vittek as first goal scorer at 7.8 - bit of a fluke as I hadn't done my home work and it turns out he hasn't scored in the last 9 games and was a relatively surprise inclusion. Ah well, a wins a win!
