The Football League Show

by Stuffed Crust Pizza » 08 Aug 2010 00:17

Whilst I am thankful that the BBC hold the rights for the Football League highlights package after enduring years of the awful and predicatable ITV offering of The Championship. I will say that I'm slightly miffed that tonight they have decided upon showing extended highlights of Leeds v Derby as their main feature. A game that was shown live on BBC 1 some five hours previous. Viewers would have been better served being shown another game's highlights to add variety.

Now who has the Points of View email address?

Get used to the fact that this season, the BBC will be focusing on Leeds and Pompey; no-one else will get a look in unless someone goes on, say, a 33 match unbeaten run.

I caught some of the R5 commentary of the leeds/Derby game; at one point the commentator said "...and the Leeds fans will expect more if they are to return to the Premiership".

Odd that they don't talk about the Derby fans expectations of a return to the Premiership, or ours, or Coventry's.......its as if the media have decided that Leeds are a Premiership club being loaned out to the Fizzy Pop (and now nPower) and that all of their financial mismanagement didn't happen.

Leeds are this season's Newcastle to the media.

Yes they are a big club but there are others bigger with more chances of going up.

I believe Notthingham Forest actually WON a European cup or two.

Crikey that is news to me. They're so modest about their sucess. You wouldn't also happen to know who the manager was back then?.........

But you must be having a good old chuckle when the Leeds fans chant "We are the champions, champions of Europe". Just how many European trophies have Leeds won?

Pissed me off as well, but I guess it makes sense. It means they only have to have a significant camera & crew presence at one game, rather than two to get enough angles and footage to make a decent highlights package in addition to the game they broadcast live.

I'm not massively upset about them showing Leeds v Derby. Easily the most interesting game in the Championship yesterday.

I will, however, be miffed if Auntie develops the same obsession with Leeds and Portsmouth that the rest of the meedja does.

It will certainly be irritating if the majority of live games they show have one of them in, much like Newcastle last season.
