Talking of Southbank, what other RFC related teams are in local leagues. Obviously there is Hobnob, and I know of DC Steamers and RAS Rovers on Sundays. Any others?

We're always on the lookout for new players and never overlook the possibility of signing some fresh faces. Many thanks for the good luck wishes. It's going to be an interesting first season in the Reading Football League!

Woodley Hammers, of the Reading Football League Division 4 are looking for a local side to play in a friendly next week. A pitch has been booked at Woodford Park on the evening of Friday 13th August and a referee can be sorted. Any parties interested please reply here.

Slightly higher than park football but the Hellenic Premier kicked off tonight and most clubs will have their first matches Tuesday or Wednesday.

Lots of local interest

Binfield have their opening fixture tonight.
Reading Town lost most of their squad to Thatcham Town (in the Zamerretto).
Ascot United have taken the Reading Town goalkeeper on loan who was arguably the best keeper in the Premiership last season.
Ascot United also benefit from a fully redeveloped ground and new clubhouse and bar with Sky TV.
Bracknell Town have been relegated to Hellenic Premier but have picked up the Binfield manager.
Wokingham & Emmbrook are promoted to the premiership and are ground sharing at Bracknell Town.

It should be a great season in Hellenic.

No wonder they were so desperate.

No Fixed Abode Local football isn't what it used to be.

agreed. Seven divisions on a Sunday in Basingstoke 4 years ago and we are now down to 4. It is so expensive these days with a pitch and referee costing to over £75 each game it's crazy!

My sons play at U8 and U10 level, seven-a-side football. The club have about 15 teams at junior level (before they go to 11-a-side at U12).
Each team has, typically, 10 players per squad, and the club lose money for every single junior team, even if everyone pays their £130 subs.

Hobnob FC earned an impressive (imho) draw yesterday against a team that they lost 5-1 last summer. Naturally at this time of year, fitness was an issue.
