I was just thinking this.

However I'm indifferent. I actually don't mind Scottish football and the proposals, British Cup being one of them, are ambitious but it's about time they upped their game a bit.

The draw could be a right mess as there are some seriously long away trips even for Scottish clubs in various parts of the country..

Aberdeen
Peterhead
Elgin City
Inverness CT
Arbroath
Brechin
Montrose
Stranraer

I reckon this will be a non starter as most of the clubs in Scottish divisons 2 and 3 are semi professional or in the case of Queens Park amateur (sp?) so there would have to be some serious sponsorship available to clubs in order to fund trips especially for example if Elgin City got Torquay, Plymouth or Southend away.

Scottish league football is a complete mess at the moment, the 10 team premier league plan is likely to fail as there is not enough backing as its teams like St Mirren, St Johnstone, Aberdeen and Hamilton Accies who are the likely candidates to miss out first time around plus they play each other a minimum of 4 times each season (having experinced this on one season v Walsall alone it must be boring!)

They really should have an 18 team top tier then have two equal divisions of say 16/18 teams below - they would have to increase their membership but there are plenty of teams in Highland League, East of Scotland and Central Scotland who could comfortably fit into this system.

Ballymena United
Cliftonville
Crusaders
Donegal Celtic
Dungannon Swifts
Glenavon
Glentoran
Linfield
Lisburn Distillery

The Welsh league would be better off looking at the Conference for cross-border competitions. Can't speak for IFA Premiership teams.

I fear IFA would similarly be competitive only at non-league level in England, being as they are, semi-professional clubs.

There could be some sort of British Cup that replaces the Johnson's Paint Trophy? That could actually be a pretty interesting competition if you had Welsh, Northern Irish, and Scottish sides all competing with lower League or Conference English teams.

Interesting, but what would be the point of Glentoran v Stockport, except a gate of 400 and a net loss for both teams involved?

I reckon Glens fans would be up for that! Also, now I'm not too knowledgable on this, I assume Stockport at least have a go at whatever cups they're competing in.

So the Scottish FA won't back a British Olympic football team for fear of losing their FIFA rights, but are happy to have their teams playing English teams in a British cup competition? That strikes me as a touch odd. It's not the same as European competitions as they are governed by a single entity, UEFA, whereas this would be a minimum of two governing bodies clubbing together. How would FIFA view that???

There is a precedent or three already with Welsh clubs playing in the Football League, FA Cup and League Cup. And we all have our opinion of the FAW.

Another attempt by Scottish FA to try and inveigle in on the cash that's ruining the game down here. Then if they've get this they can put forward a stronger case to join in the PL.

It'd certainly be a non-runner if they put all lower league clubs into the mix from the start, can you imagine it - Ross County v Plymouth Argyle!

Therefore it would have to be regionalised until probably the QFs (also to keep Scottish interest alive longer!)

This should be ejected to the dustbin forthwith.
