Marcus Rashford's recent debut against Australia started a conversation in the pub the other night about impressive international debuts. By far the most impressive that we came up with (I admit it was not my contribution) was that of Dieter Müller.
He made his West German international debut in the European Championships semi-final in 1976. He was brought on as a substitute in the 79th minute against Yugoslavia - Yugoslavia were winning 2:1 at the time. He scored the equalizer shortly after being brought on and scored two more in extra-time as West Germany went on to win 4:2. He also scored in the final although West Germany lost (very memorably) on penalties to Czechoslovakia.
So, contributions please. I suspect this pub conversation will be continued soon enough and I am badly in need of your knowledgable support.
