Sanguine Michael Edwards signed Davies and Kabak yesterday for €1.5m up front. It's an option to buy Kabak, not an obligation, and the price is €18m, not the €30m that Schalke were asking for when Liverpool enquired about him in the summer. And rumours that Liverpool were in for Mustafi started about a week about - which subsequently made it clear Mustafi's availability, and allowed Schalke to find a replacement. Edwards probably gave them Mustafi's number. He's very good is this chap.

Arent schalke the 2nd worst team ever in budesliga and a complete shocking basket case club? So weird of liveroool to buy him

Not quite the same extent but they bought Robertson from relegated Hull and that hasn’t turned out so bad

And often you find those sort of signings may turn out more successful. When you buy from perceived “big clubs” - you often buy for the name, whereas from teams out of the blue, you’ve normally worked hard to assess the player in question, and make sure they fit what’s required

Well, quite. Liverpool's signings have come from Roma, Southampton, Newcastle, Stoke, Hull and Hoffenheim. It's called scouting, isn't it.

Like buying a relegated Robertson, Wijnaldum and Shaqiri, I guess.

Liverpool very rarely buy from big clubs. Less relative value in it. They tend to go for big fish in a small pond and they scout thoroughly.

True, tbh.

I guess the most obvious ones from recent years are Alisson from Roma and Thiago from Bayern.

Firminho from Hoffenheim
Wynaldum from Newcastle
Henderson from Sunderland
Robertson from Hull
Milner on a free
Thiago was an absolute steal at £20m.
Coutinho only cost £8m. His sale paid for Salah, Mane and Firminho.

Centre back pairing of Henderson and Phillips (who was allegedly a target for us) isn't going to keep you in a title race.

Was difficult to change it around too much following two excellent away displays, but personally feel Klopp has to start Fabinho (if fit) and Henderson in midfield on Sunday as the backups aren’t up to it and those two’s influence in the middle of the park is being hugely missed

Effectively from Liverpool’s first choice XI, you’re weakening two positions (CB and CM) by dropping Henderson/Fabinho back

They were disappointing tonight, think they’re following a similar pattern to us where perhaps they can deal with a couple of injuries, but not so many at a time. Ending the game with a midfield of Milner, Jones and Chamberlain, IMO, really does show the extent of the injury list at the moment, as none have really excelled this season

Tough fixture list of City, Leicester, Leipzig and Everton ahead, although Liverpool do seem to fare better against teams that are more open, as opposed to breaking teams down

Agreed on Henderson and Fabinho in midfield-I think you and I have been on about this for ages -even if it puts the defence in greater risk.
although maybe Alisson, Mane and Fabinho were all genuinely unfit.
Last night they looked tired and at the same time I think Klopp was thinking too far ahead to the City game with his set-up although maybe Alisson, Mane and Fabinho were all genuinely unfit.

This is a reversion to 2 seasons ago when points dropped against "lesser" clubs proved to be their downfall but the injury record has been crazy so that's it for this season in terms of being Champions and there you go City, it's all yours.
