The feat of the Quadruple

by Loafer » 28 Apr 2022 06:10

Would Liverpool winning the Quadruple be the best feat a team has ever accomplished in football?

Many teams have won a treble but to my knowledge none ever have got a clean sweep. Manchester United, Barcelona, Inter Milan, Bayern Munich, Celtic, Ajax and PSV have all won the treble of European Cup, league title and domestic cup.

Or was Leicester winning the Premier league better? Or Aguero last minute goal?

Or something even completely different such as Greece winning the Euros?

Not sure how many other countries have two domestic cups.

Would be difficult to compare

Celtic winning three trebles in a row was outstanding, but in a one horse race
Barca’s treble was presumably a clean sweep for them

Winning all 4 would be the ultimate achievement and then can class themselves as immortals.

I think City's current level would mean that Liverpool achieving the quadruple in part at their expense would be elevated even higher. It will be 63 games for Liverpool this season if they get past Villareal, and the club are likely to have seven or eight players having made 50 or more appearances.

I still think City will take the league title. It's still possible that Liverpool could lose just 3 of 63 games this season and win just one trophy.

We have two domestic cups where most other countries only have one, so that's hard to compare in that sense.

It's certainly up there as the greatest British achievement for sure in a single season, I think the only thing that can rival it is Leicester's title win back in 2016.

Indeed, though it's always seemed slightly strange that losing on penalties doesn't count as a loss.

Winston predicts City to win the league, Liverpool to win the other 3
