..ta - not spotted that - changed a couple of weeks ago (28/07) - as Footes Lane work not completed in time -now switched & original fixture re-scheduled for Sunday 8th Jan 2023

https://guernseyfc.com/news/opening-day-fixture-switch

...and of course meant the Aldermaston v Westside CCL1 fixture got 'bumped' ...

- ...wanted to avoid a lengthy M'way journey in the heat - and read about at few potential planned closures (which I'm not certain actually happened) so picked out a pleasant, mostly cross-country trundle down to the Gosport area
Attended the Wessex One league game @ 'new boys' Fleetlands 0-1 Totton & Eling
- ground renamed from it's military/naval-aviation construction/repair days of DARA Fleetlands to 'Powder Monkey' Park - re-badged due to the sponsorship of the local brewery
- hosts promoted up out of the Hants League and are starting to find life at this level a bit tough.
- this was their first home game back in the Wessex - had a brief stay in the mid 00's, pre re-org, when there were 3 Wessex divisions but couldn't remain as members of that league without lights - so had to go back to County level. They won Div 2 of the three-tiered Wessex in 2007 ahead of Tadley, Whitchurch, Aldermaston, Portchester, Stoneham etc and even today's opponents in their former guise as BAT Sports.

Yet to register a point. Not wildly outplayed but T&E have been the divisions' whipping boys for a while now and held them off comfortably with what appeared to be a very young playing squad.
Conditions not ideal for football of course and it is a bit early to judge but they didn't really have much of an on-field pattern barring try and get it to the big lad up top - who was fairly quick for his size but didn't win much in the air and seemed to keep making the wrong runs.
No facilities to write home about - small chalet-type clubhouse serving the sponsors wares as well as badges 8) but no food available yet - most other things looked a bit temporary but enough to meet the grading ticks. Ground entrance tucked in opposite a Retail Park (incl KFC if you are desperately hungry enough at H/T :? ) directly off the A32 beyond Fareham down towards Gosport

...nipped down to Bottom Meadow (nka SB Stadium) tonight (Monday) to watch Bracknell demolish Harrow Borough 4-1 in front of close to 400.

They certainly have new season momentum and possess a fiery forward line full of pace and strength.

Just a few signs that STEP03 might not be a straightforward charge to another title though.

HB were thoroughly out played and out thought by the end but early on the smaller quick Borough forwards were troubling the 'Robins' back line and stunned the home side - with a very well-worked equalizing goal inside the first 10'.
Town had grabbed the lead with almost their first attack on 2'.

But Bracknell have just the right man in charge in BW (Bobby Wilkinson) - he must have tweaked something immediately that he'd seen wasn't right following that leveller
He switched the midfield formation & the threat was snuffed out. From that point Bracknell ran the show with few alarms until late on by which time the game was won.

Not over-egging it ... but he has form and history along similar lines - something I often noticed from his days at Hungerford - where he'd led them up to STEP02
- he'd often make quite sudden bold changes in personnel or shape from the touch-line, that would swing a match in their favour.
In this case just he just appeared to apply a bit of fine-tuning.

New covered Terrace at the SB now at the clubhouse end as well as a food-outlet but although I was hungry enough this evening to partake - the Burger was a tad 'arid' but the chips were ok.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Very busy Tue night for local NL sides - virtually all of our 'featured' sides in action. I won't post the full list but here's a few 'notables' from STEP01 down to 06:
Maidenhead United v Altrincham
Banbury United v Boston
Strikes me Bobby Wilkinson has some of the tactical nous that has sadly been missing in Reading’s management in recent seasons.
FA Cup: Meet Reading City, the non-league club known more for food than football
By Neil Johnston
From the section FA Cup
The Chinese food box served at non-league Reading City
Reading City's Chinese food box got more than 20,000 likes on Twitter
It started as a social media prank that went viral, but it has put non-league Reading City on football's food map.
When Barney Sweeney tweeted a random picture of a box of Chinese food which he joked the part-time Berkshire club were serving to fans, it caused a social media frenzy.
It was liked thousands of times after the picture was retweeted by Footy Scran, an account with more than 439,000 followers which invites fans to take pictures of the best - and worst - food on sale at football matches.
"The likes went from 1,000 to 2,000 to 5,000 in no time," said Vicky Pyke, treasurer at Reading City, who play in the ninth tier of English football.
"I said to the chairman 'we need to jump on this because if we don't then someone else will'."
Shortly afterwards, the Citizens added Thai red curry, noodles, spring rolls, pak choi and chicken balls - all served in a pizza box - to the matchday menu at £10.
A picture of the food, cooked by chairman Martin Law, received more than 20,000 likes, and is now on sale at every home game at Reading City's Rivermoor Stadium.
"A lot of people hadn't heard of Reading City before all this happened," said Simon Johnson, manager of the Combined Counties League club, who are at Royal Wootton Bassett Town in the FA Cup preliminary round on Saturday.
Reading City make about £4 for each box of Chinese food they sell
"None of this would have happened but for my mate Barney.
"He thought it would be funny to tweet a picture of a huge box of Chinese food and say 'look what they're serving at Reading City'.
"We had to do something as a club because thousands of people were reacting in a positive way on social media. The first game after the joke, 20-odd people turned up asking for a Chinese because they had seen it on Twitter.
"I've heard some people say we're more famous for food than for football right now."
Reading City's average league gate in 2021-22 was 112
Pyke added: "It's been such a boost for the club. We have seen new faces at the ground since we started selling it.
"There was one gentleman from Cornwall who wasn't sure whether to come and watch us or go to Hungerford. He picked us because of the food.
"Another fan asked 'can you get a box ready for the end of the game so I can take it home to my wife and son?'."
Each food box sold nets Reading City about £4 profit, while nothing goes to waste.
"The players sometimes have the leftovers in the dressing room after a match," added Johnson.
"I have tried it. It's good, but it is not something I would recommend as a pre-match meal for the team. It might slow them down."
Also a proliferation of road/closed/diversion signs in the 'Heights' area as a result .... but I ignored them and found my way into the ground off the usual entrance on Milton Hill.
Club have big plans to re-develop the clubhouse - which was always simple/homely - so will definitely go back again early next season.
United doing well so far on the pitch too - but Moreton kept them honest and might have pinched a point near the end.
SSM-P
Ardley Utd 5-2 Risborough Rangers
WESS-1
Andover Town {SEVEN} 7-2 Whitchurch Utd att 192
Fleet Spurs 1-4 Petersfield Town
Stumbled across a 1979 film Yesterday's Hero. It's a football film, so obviously it's rubbish. However, the opening shots are of York Road, and a later sequence is filmed at Stag Meadow.
Rising Ballers Kensington?
...from what little I've unearthed - is a 're-badge' of Kensington & Ealing Borough fka Kensington Borough : which changed when they 'merged' with Ealing Borough - and before that were formerly known as AFC Hillgate in their Middx County League days.
Latest manifestation also seems to have a merger behind it 'Rising Ballers' were an outfit in the Middx League too and reportedly their management and squad 'moved' to Kensington last season?
- trundled down for this – I’d been but mate was keen to see City away in the Vase and hadn’t visited Saw Mills before.
- City too strong up front for the hosts who were functional but no more – sparse turn-out (under 40) at a fairly unspectacular venue directly off the main dual-carriageway (A38) through Glawster.
- they hope to develop more of the ground to give it a less temporary ‘Bus-Shelter’ kind of feel but are in no rush. Is more or less open on three sides so you could watch for free from the Industrial estate car park or that of the IBIS Hotel (which is now apparently a temporary Hostel for Afghan Refugees - quite a few of whom were watching from outside. The club have set up training sessions for the younger occupants and donated kit - which is a nice touch.)
Results this PM in the Vase
Sunday 28th August
FA Vase
95 F.C. Deportivo Galicia 3-1 Wellingborough Whitworth
105 Dunstable Town 2-0 Crawley Green
117 Sandhurst Town 1-2 Sheerwater minor surprise here perhaps - as 'Sheers' were bottom of Premier South and pointless whereas 'Fizzers' had been carrying all before them in Div One. (5 wins from 5 and a GD of plus 21) Looked a bit closer and in fairness the visitors have actually only played one league game - a 0-4 defeat against 2nd placed and 100% RPV.
- expect I'll keep it local for an AM & PM 'double'
- my mate is working and I don't fancy a long solo trek for a new tick - especially amidst BH traffic
- probably pick one one from half a doz nearby - looking at Tadley, Knaphill or Chalfont for 'starters' as I've not been for a while:
- then I've got about 15-20 15:00 KOs in reasonable range- did Sheerwater then Ash I think last August - but the 2nd game was a 14:00 KO and the first one didn't last beyond 70 mins ... away side ran out of players!
- Chesham, Highworth or Wantage - the most likely .... but I'll decide at the final whistle of the first one
- for certain combinations I can possibly even nip home between games. 8)
Windsor 3-0 Flackwell Heath
50yo Barry Hayles MOTM. He is stripping much fitter than when he last played for us 3 years ago. Looks as trim as in his PL days.
Made 2 and scored 1. Outpacing and out-muscling defenders 20-30 years his junior.
Unreal.
SLP-S
Beaconsfield Town 2-2 Hanwell Town
Chesham United 1-0 North Leigh – att 455
- got to this for my 2nd of the BH double – was a hard fought game with ‘Generals’ on top for most of it but 'NorLye' carried a threat when they did venture forward.
- Spent most of the game defending though – eventually succumbed to the very impressive Oliyide.
Mitch Parker in the visitors line-up – worked harder than I’ve seen him before at lower levels.
- Hosts up to 3rd behind W-s-M and Truro
Harrow Borough 1-2 Hayes & Yeading United
- started my BH ‘double’ here – built a new access road into Brookwood Country Park since my last visit about 6 years back – which I missed!
- fairly tight local derby (only 8 miles between them) but ‘Knappers’ pinched all three points, thanks to some dozy defending – Cambo never seriously threatened the hosts goal - bar a few set-pieces which came to nothing.
- the local ‘Glawster’ derby in this division today between Longlevens and Tuffley pulled in a crowd of 222 who witnessed a 0-0.
-No crowd figure showing yet for the Hereford ‘derby' between Westfields and ‘Lads Club’ - probably affected by home games scheduled locally for both 'Pegasus' and primarily of course 'United' - beaten by Gloucester at Edgar St.
- 324 turned up at Malvern for the visit of Worcester Raiders (ended 1-1)
- only two above are classed as 'new ticks' (Potton or Fisher) so may try one of those - could possibly go with the 'Magpies' vs 'Magpies' down at Wimborne at their 'new' stadium - but a) is only 'half-a-tick' and b) might draw in quite a big crowd - impacts on Progs if they do one ( :? ) and parking of course......?
