The Football Regulator thread

by Winston Biscuit » 09 Jul 2025 10:47

Government voted through the bill at its 3rd reading 415 to 98 yesterday, so its now on its way to becoming law.

Lisa Nandy in the HoC yesterday:
"This is for Macclesfield, for Wigan, for Bury, for Bolton, for Derby, for Reading, for Sheffield Wednesday, for Morecambe and for many, many more who have had to endure the misery of being put last when they should have been put first."

Not fully sure what powers this lot will have. some doom mongers out there claiming its interfering etc, but right now I don't mind, football has, and still is, running away somewhat from what its meant to be, I am happy enough to keep an open mind to see what powers and what ideas the regular has to maintain the game

Also apparently MPs are going to vote on making at least 10 PL/FL games a season free to air as part of the governance bill.

Supposedly it’s going to be “independent from government and football authorities”.

Believe that when I see it though, fully expecting it to become yet another useless government quango.

Rare for a motion proposed by an opposition party to succeed, whatever the party in government is.

Not voting for something beneficial just because my party didn't think of it

I know. Now we'll never get Burnley vs Brentford on the BBC or ITV.
