There must be something missing from this ridiculous saga, either that or the current owners are complete lunatics.

These recent cases have shown there needs to be a special dispensation with sporting “businesses” whereby idiot owners can be forced to sell when offers are on the table and third parties can force a club into administration when necessary.

The Morecambe owner did pretty much the same thing at Worcester rugby but was unfortunately already in at Morecambe before doing it.

No idea why he does this - whether he feels the land has more value being used for something else but one hopes they get it sorted but sadly, unless the deal goes through quickly, you can see them having to restart at the bottom.

Looks like their idiot owner has finally agreed the sale but won’t hold my breath over it just yet.

Wednesday, predictably, following our well-trodden path.

Sheffield Wednesday will "imminently" be served with a winding-up petition over money owed to HMRC, reports BBC Radio Sheffield.

After an investigation alongside the Sheffield Star it is understood the Championship club owes £1m.

A winding-up petition would increase the pressure on the club's owner Dejphon Chansiri to sell.

They are already under five separate EFL embargoes after failing to pay wages on time in five of the past seven months.

Definitely sped-run it compared to how we went.

I cannot remember all the circumstances, but weren't we docked points for late payments of wages (I think we were for late payments to HMRC)?

If so, why have Weds not been hit yet?

There was this statement at the start of August https://www.efl.com/news/2025/august/06 ... wednesday/

It seems the EFL are really taking their time with the disciplinary process but it seems there will be something inevitably.

They will want to hold off sanctions as long as possible, as they know it's not the club it's the owner that's the problem, but eventually it's their only possible action. That's all entirely consistent with how they treated us.

Been mentioned elsewhere but appears that Wednesday are now in administration.

Not clear who put them in, which will be important, as I believe the person/entity that puts them in admin gets to appoint the administrator.

If it is confirmed then Weds will drop to -6 points, 15 points adrift of Sheffield United in 21st.

They owe the tax man a few million so I'd imagine it's probably HMRC.

Doesn't it have to be a really big creditor? I'm not sure the tax would be that big a slice of the club's debt.

Most news outlets are now reporting that Chansiri has placed them into administration because of the. HMRC winding up petition.

As I understand it, anyone who is owed money* can get a winding-up order in place but there's a strong, rather set in stone, hierarchy as to who gets paid their debts first.

EDIT - from the Guardian today

If the club are sold, Chansiri will receive money from the transaction as the leading shareholder and lender. But legal requirements mean he will come towards the bottom of the pile. Under the football-creditors rule the first people to be paid off will be players, managers and other staff as well as other clubs who may be owed money. Then come the club’s secured creditors, those who have collateral against their lendings, followed by unsecured creditors such as HMRC and, finally, shareholders. The further down the order of priority the less likely those debts are to be repaid in full and Chansiri’s estimated loans of £100m to the club are understood to be unsecured.

It does feel like the EFL and HMRC have subtly changed their approaches over the last few years.

(*So, going back in time, it was Eric Hall who moved to put Leicester in administration in 2002-3, believed to be a small fee but it came alongside Dennis Wise, who he was representing, trying to sue Leicester for wrongful dismissal. For punching Callum Davidson.)
