Best manager we ever had.

Bristol City swoop for Paul Jewell?

Royalee Pardew did all the work and it took Coppell 3 years to finish it

You normally present your case well, even if I don't happen to agree with it. But this is just LOL funny. Pardew did a great job, but "all the work"? Three years is an age in football - if Coppell was as bad as you claim, we should have gone down, not up, in that time. Anyway, it's certainly more than enough time in sporting terms to earn most of the managerial credit for the result.

Well if he isn't, who is?

McGhee did a much harder job than him, Pardew did all the work and it took Coppell 3 years to finish it before he pissed it away through being incompetent and having no drive.

Never saw this coming much

Like i posted after his appointment, he asked / demanded the purchase of another player and was told NO by the DIrector, and he quit, i stated in my post that the Director liked to get very involved with the day to day running of the club ....just a little to much.

Still reckon he's gunna go to Villa after the dust settles :P

Hugo Boss Heard a very strong rumour from a good source that he was rather p*ssed off a couple of weeks ago when the Chairman signed James without his knowledge. Therefore, I don't blame Coppell one bit - Nobody wants a meddling Chairman.

brendywendy that transfer did seem to be a very non coppell deal when it happened

Why? After all, he signed Les Ferdinand and Martin Keown for us early on.

PorkyRfc You are clearly huge fans of Hammond then guys? Fair enough, you are entitled to you view, as I am to mine. However, I would point out that Hammond would have very limited say in financial matters as a director of football and has no qualifications in that matter whatsoever. Those decisions, which help run the club so brilliantly and keep us such a viable entity, would be made well above his head at board level.

Also, I think you will find that our most successful ever period on the pitch was down to the genius and accquistions of just one man and that is Steve Coppell as proved by the failure to return since.

I concur that Hammond has presided over a very successful period. He has probably been involved in some excellent negotiations too. I don't have a problem with him but it is undeniable that he has failed on occasion to seal transfer deals for the club (most notably Smith) and occasionally made concerning (but forgivable I accept) decisions about the likes of Simon Cox. Following your reasoning he would have been the 'man' who brought in Rodgers.

What I am saying is that there are many more important people than him in the cogs of RFC that have made us successful. I, personally, would rather see a more experienced, knowledgable and qualified man dealing with our transfers an contracts in a hugely respected Steve Coppell. But thanks for your insults all the same!

So come on then, fill us all in. What do you know about Nick Hammond that the rest of don't? You seem to know all about his qualifications (or your perception of a lack of them). You also seem to have a very blinkered view on what he does and does not bring to the club. Yet no evidence to support your subjectivity.

All I will say is that he has been DofF for some years now and has been, it would appear, a welcome addition to the support team for 3 managers. None of those managers have raised objections to having him around - in fact they have all praised his input. Reading seem to have found a way of effectively and properly using the concept of DofF to support rather than hinder the manager and, more importantly they seem to have found a man who has the right skill set to deliver.

Sir JM is not prone to wasting money. If he felt that Nick Hammond was not worth the money that he costs the club then he'd be pretty sharp in losing him from the payroll - yet no signs of that. That is, to me, a strong indicator of the value that Nick brings.

Discuss.

Sir Steve: Hi chairman
Chairman: Yes
Sir Steve: Can I have some money for a new player
Chairman: Yes no problem, who do you want
Sir Steve: Young lad at Reading, got great potential, called Cummings
Chairman: You're rumbled
Sir Steve: Damn was it that obvious?

Tredder James continued: "It sounded nice and if my agent hadn't told me that the unbelievably lucrative deal had been agreed and Steve Coppell would ring I would have ignored it straight away. It wouldn't have worked any other way.

"Bristol's finish last season was decent and the manager is someone I have a high respect for.

"Having seen him now for the two days [in training] it makes sense."

Case Dismissed.

But you can bet that't what James was thinking...

His agent would have no doubt told him he was talking to City and had agreed terms, before the Coppell call

Bristol Car Parking Space Demo...

by Thou Voice » 12 Aug 2010 16:17

Fellow Biscuit Men, I on behalf of the good people of Reading are issuing a waaaaaaaaaar cry...

...but whyy...

...I see that the Bristol fans are nooooooot rallying around to decorate Sir Steve's space with pictures, flags, dolls and posters of our hero.

Perhaps it's time to teach theeeeem a lesson???

I call upon everyone that next time we play Bristol toooo bring posters of Sir Steve and wallpaper paste to the game. We should then tour the car parks prior to the match and any car that has any sign of the gypsies from Bristol in terms of football club flags, we paste pictures of Sir Steve over their windows...

...how dare they spit in the Balding Guy's face like this.

DO YOU SEE?
