The whole bet thing was ridiculous and offensive anyway, why did Sunbet offer that bet? No doubt it's because in their mind he's the sort of fat oxf*rd who would eat a pie on the bench right? They wouldn't offer a bet on Harry Kane to do it because he's a player in peak condition, they were playing on Shaw's physique.

That said, you'd look at Shaw's actions and say, "does he have a history of eating pies while on the bench?", the answer I would imagine being a resounding no and thus one can easily come to the conclusion he was influenced by the bet.

Their manager was on the radio yesterday saying that every member of staff at the club are now under investigation for breaking betting rules and that they have been told 2000 bets were placed on the pie being eaten. Claims they told him the investigation will takes months to complete and they are all now going to have to give up significant time to spent proving themselves innocent.

Absolutely ludicrous. Nice to know the FA have nothing better to do.

Whole situation is ridiculous, even Sutton manager is looking like a pompous twat now but ultimately it's sun bet where everyone's anger should be aimed at.

Keeper will do well out of this if he plays the long game as a larger than life character will go down well on I'm a celebrity or Big Brother and fair play to him I say.

no different than spot fixing if
he has benefited from bets...

If he hasn't then it was his decision
they were betting on...don't really see
a problem with this.

money was placed on the bets

Sunbets are tw@ts for doing it

That is what I said but in a far clearer and non "bobby-talking-sh1t" way.

I said before:

if he knew about the bet but DID not bet then how in god's name can he have done anything wrong?

If he chose NOT to eat the pie then surely he's just as guilty as having ate the pie. The difference being is the bookies would have come out losing money, rather than gaining it.

In short the whole thing is a complete joke and sums up the current football world

I'm not so sure. Wouldn't surprise me if the betting company paid him to do it as a publicity stunt. It's the way he moves forward out if the dugout to eat the pie, as if maximising the chances of being caught on camera.

However, as others have said, it's the betting company who are primarily at fault here.

Disagree. It's like a kid being dared to do something, doing it and then when in trouble after claiming it is the darer who is primarily at fault.

He has to take full responsibility for his actions, the betting company didn't make him do it but they willingly created the environment for him to do it. In the light of wider betting issues in football, that was pretty irresponsible.

No bet, no pie eating.

It's more like an older teenage brother daring a slightly simple six year old to do something by bullying them IMO.

I don't see any bullying or even slight pressure on him to do it.

I am not saying the betting company are squeaky clean on this, they come out looking pretty stupid (no such thing as bad publicity and all that though) but it is 100% on him IMO. He is a fully grown man who saw a bet and wanted to take advantage. There are loads of things in the world that we would like to take advantage of but due to law or morals we don't.

I donno, I reckon there's something quite bullying and unpleasant about a betting company taking the piss out of a non-league reserve goalie's weight and professionalism like that. And the guy obviously wasn't well equiped to handle it, or he wouldn't have deliberately tried to get filmed eating the pie during the game.

Don't forget today sees the implementation of a couple of new rules applicable from the QFs onwards

1. No replays. All games will be decided on the day by extra time and penalties if necessary
2. A fourth substitution will be allowed if the game goes into extra time

Just waiting for when the FA will decide to apply this nonsense to all the other rounds (certainly from the third round onwards)

BBC reporting Lincoln as being "thrashed" at Arsehol

Sorry, anything less than conceding 6 at a team 88 positions above them is not a "thrashing"....allbeit the loser being a "bigger than normal" non-league team such as Lincoln are.

Well done Imps and wise-up BBC

I noticed that....This was Arsenals first team and it was inevitable they would be fresher as time went on. It was only 1 nil going into the second half.

This, hoping they're kept apart from Arsenal in the semi final draw though - North London derby would make for a great final.
