Four Of Clubs
Terminal Boardom Binfield v Windsor tonight in the B&B Senior Trophy semi-final. By all accounts, this will go ahead.

...well I wos there - looked a good turn out from the Stag M'dow crew too and evidently enjoyed the result - att official 192 - plenty huddled out of the constant but light drizzly stuff.

Clever worked opener for Moles - nice finish by Carl Withers too - but suspect his legs gave up early 2nd half trying to track some livewire runners through midfield for the visitors. Continually managed to turn the Binfield back four - which isn't the quickest, maybe missing a few regulars too - and Windsor could/should have had more.

Equaliser early-ish 2nd half, screaming free-kick - following a daft challenge on the edge of the box, as home side failed to clear the ball under pressure. Windsor winner from the penalty spot - didn't see the incident clearly but seemingly a needless handball about 15' from the end.

Moles tried to up the pace and had some success down the left (Seb Bowerman had switched over from the right) but rarely produced enough threatening deliveries. May well have been suffering from inactivity - haven't played a league game since Boxing Day - they did manage to hit the far post as a player slid in from a narrow angle.

Ref's patience snapped - with Moles back-line continually whinging at every dead ball - and sent two of them off in one go (2nd Yellows) near the end, as they surrounded him for the umpteenth time, to moan about Windsor's (understandable) time-wasting.

- I s'pose the lesson for Binfield is you won't win enough games without a forward line - they've sold off a series of them in recent times - latest being Cornell to Sluff. JJ runs hard but is too often left isolated or prone to poor choice on the ball - and he's not the biggest either. Will need to address this if they wish to start challenging at the upper end of the table next season - too late now I'd guess.

So Windsor deservedly progress to the Final v Abingdon Utd or RTFC - that semi- is due to be played @ Abingdon tomorrow (that's the Abingdon side whose pitch is currently ABOVE water 8) )- weather permitting - there's s'posed to be lots more wet stuff on the way tomorrow PM/Eve :( .

Many thanks for the report. It wasn't easy following on Twitter or Facebook as the updates dried up in the last 15 minutes or so.

Final provisionally set for Tuesday 15th April - venue yet to be decided. Are there any preferences or suggestions?

Royalist Apparently the pitch at Staines is flooded and was on sky sports news as was Abingdon's. No idea how clubs can keep going when they have month after month of no home game to get money in!

Egham Town v Daventry today is off.

This was Runnymede Stadium [Egham Town] within the last week.

Been 3ft of water on the pitch. It'll be a few weeks before they are back up and running.

Final [Berks/Bucks Senior Trophy] provisionally set for Tuesday 15th April - venue yet to be decided. Are there any preferences or suggestions?

...have to keep a watch out for this one: - B&BFA site does indeed have 15th April as provisional date and is actually showing RTFC as the venue but that's more than likely just a default setting associated with the first team named as Finalist. If they've put it in on a Tuesday that's a fairly firm indicator - normally the Cup/Trophy Fixtures dates are 'up to or by' a certain date -(ie usually shown as a Friday)

However the B&B Trophy has usually been played on the 2nd Tuesday in April (apart from last year's 'non-final' when virtually all of the last eight left in the competition were excluded for ineligibility transgressions!)
Looking back a couple of years it also seemed as if one of the Finalists normally hosts the match - Newport Pagnell Town in 2011 and Ab Town in 2012 - before that I seem to recall the Final taking place at neutral venues (in 2009 I saw RTFC bt NPT at Abingdon Utd, Northcourt Rd ground - United were a STEP04 club back then too; the following year the same clubs contested the Final at Chesham's Amy Lane)

There is a program of league fixtures in the CCL & Hellenic that evening (15th April) which might rule out certain other available STEP05 venues - indeed Windsor are also currently booked to play at South Park on that date - though the County Cups take preference.

Will try and keep my ear to the ground and see what emerges from the 'anorakno-sphere' :?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
From 25 matches in range on my list for last night (Tue) ; only 7 survived - and I'd ruled out handing over an excessive amount of dosh to the Sh!ts for their game vs FGR - would have been about £26 odd for me and the middle one to get in! :shock:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Ended up with an easy option (and good food 8) ) at Oak Tree Rd for Marlow. Home side certainly had 'Trouble with the Chalfonts' last night :D - went down 1-4 -Blues were able to boss possession on a sticky surface but were continually cut to ribbons on the break. Bit sobering following their win over the league leaders on Saturday - but evidently have difficulty with fast counter-attacking opponents.
Would be intrigued to see the reverse fixture and assess how Chalfont set up when the onus may be on them to come forward - presuming Marlow wouldn't be naïve enough to try the same formation as last night which was a bit top heavy and narrow. However that fixture is scheduled for Easter Monday so doubt if I'd consider doing a revisit.

Might try for a midweek home game but a quick look at Chalfont's remaining games suggest they don't have another one - so might go and watch them at SYCOB in March - I suspect the home side might be a shade cannier than Marlow, who are still finding their feet back at this level.

Not much else survived locally; Thatcham lost 0-1 at Nor Lye and RTFC won their B&B S-F 1-0 at Ab. Utd. Whitchurch were beaten 0-4 at home by Bemerton.

Four Of Clubs Slough Town 4-0 Dunstable

8)
Revenge for the Dec defeat where Slough had 2 sent off. Thoroughly deserved against a team seemingly trying to buy their way to the League title (and failing, bearing in mind how well Rugby are doing).
Slough still unbeaten in 2014, and still in with a chance of the play-offs (hopefully to beat Dunstable again).

Yeah, he wasn't great! So many yellows for RPV he might well have booked one player twice but not sure.

Whatever, 6 goals but I can't say it was a great game to watch. Not much football on display and our defence was a bit of a shambles again.

Noticed that FA Trophy finalists Gosport Borough are five points adrift at the bottom of Skrill South - albeit with games in hand on most of the teams above them.

Anyone know if not Gosport, which is the lowest-ranked team in the pyramid ever to make it to the Trophy final?

I'm sure a lower ranked team than Gosport have won it but difficult to work out because of leagues reorganising. Sure FoC will know. Anyway past finals here...

I didn't ....but looked it up 8) - bit of archive delving (this site is invaluable for club histories: http://www.fchd.info/indexa-z.htm )

Could only find a few non-STEP ONE (now Conference Premier - previously National and Alliance (Gola etc)) finalists -

.. as recently as 04/05 Grays Athletic from Conf South (STEP02) bt Hucknall from Conf North
In the previous season, 2 more STEP02 sides contested the FInal Canvey Island beating Hednesford and in 02/03 all 4 Semi-Finalists were non-Conference with Burscough overcoming Tamworth to claim the Trophy.
- it might have had some bearing on how hard the top sides tried - that the Finals were not at Wembley during this period.

I think the only winners from below the top 2 STEPS were Bishops Stortford in 80-81 - at the time they were in the Berger Isthmian League Division One - so equivalent to STEP03 though the NL 'Pyramid' structure didn't really firm up at lower levels much before 2004 ish.

___________________________________________________________________________________

Got two local NL games this MW -
Mon: saw a fairly toothless Binfield fail to put away 10 man Thame who did not seem inconvenienced by inferior numbers - indeed weren't far away from an unlkely win with a few dangerous sorties late on.
Tue: 'domestics' delayed my departure - which is the norm :roll: - and I had to opt for the closest game in the Southern Premier at The Gore where Burnham (also losing a man late in the 1st Half) fell 1-2 to long-distance visitors Truro.

...elsewhere: in the CCLP Cove won at home again (that's three in row now after their incomprehensibly poor start - leaders S.Park eased to a 3-1 win over Colliers Wood.

According to one of the more sane people on the NL forum, the referee in the South Park v Colliers Wood game was a disgrace.

Oxford City vs Altrincham was OFF on Tuesday, so I ventured north to Banbury Utd, Southern Premier Leaguers. Ground is right next to Banbury station. Had some of the best football food I've ever had, 2 decent sized tasty sausages and some nice chips for £2. I washed this down with a pint of Marston's Puritan Smooth whilst reading the best programme I have ever seen at non league level. Had plenty of time to do so.....the kick off was delayed 15 mins to allow for a member of the crowd to stick a referee's kit on and replace an injured official on the line.

The visitors Stourbridge - backed by a dozen or so increasingly vocal fans who included one individual whose Jasper Carrott-esque voice really carried as he moaned incessantly, tediously and unnecessarily about the officials - strolled to a 4-0 win to consolidate their play off place. The locals - one of whom, a Charles Hawtrey lookalike, clutching a programme and a large box of liquorice allsorts, spun abruptly on his heels and left promptly with around 10 mins to play following yet another missed Stourbridge attempt - seemed quietly grumpy about recent results under ex-Barnet manager Ed Stein, brother of ex-Bournemouth (and Chelsea) cheat Mark.

Enjoyed my first visit to Spencer Park and will return on another idle Saturday or midweek.
