cmonurz The playoff final isn't a league game, data isn't comparable if you include games played by one team when other teams don't play those matches. Presumably the league will have a formal opinion on whether this is a record.

The League are treating it as a record at that level. Not for me, or Hudersfield it seems.

106 Watch

by Elm Park Old Boy » 08 Nov 2011 17:42

So, just over a third of the season gone and Graeme Murty was saying on the radio that the Southampton players are teasing him that they're going to break our record.

They have 36 points from 16 games, one point more than we had in autumn 2005 after the same number of games.

A very good start, but personally I doubt they'll get within ten ponts of our record. (And the fact that they are already thinking about it suggests to me that a bit of over-confidence may helpfully be creeping in.)

The real "breaker" for any team trying to break our record is games 17 to 26 - we won 10 in a row which is a hell of an achievement.

After game 16 the table read:

1. Sheff Utd Pld 16 Pts 38
2. Reading Pld 16 Pts 35

After game 26 the table read:

1. Reading Pld 26 Pts 65
2. Sheff Utd Pld 26 Pts 56

If Saints are near 65 points come 14th January then that is the time to start worrying about the record.

We won 9 of those 10 games by two goals or more as well. 20 points clear of third place before Christmas, incredible season.

The real killer of that season is, based on the final points achieved, we had enough points by the 10th February to be promoted automatically.

Newcastle didn't beat 106 therefore Southampton will not.

I’m just so used to us being fcuking awesome that season that the concept of us not being top of the table is pretty weird.

Not strictly relevant, but Brisbane Roar have just broken all records in Australia across every code (Football, Rugby League and Rugby Union) and are undefeated in 36 matches.

Tonight is a big test for them - away to Charlton.

Probably the 2 teams most likely to trouble the 106 record this season.

I still find it amazing that, during our 106 season, both Sonko & Ingimarsson started all 46 league games. And picked up 1 yellow card between them. Of all the records we set that season, that one is just

I am seriously concerned about Charlton. They've only dropped 11 points and look like they're onto another 3 tonight.

This must have come up before, but Southampton have now registered 21 consecutive home wins in all competitions   (19 in the league), equalling Liverpool's post-war record from the early 70s. The all-time record is 25, by Bradford PA. Rotherham managed a 22-game win streak in the 1930s.

They last failed to win a home game when they lost 2-1 to United in the League Cup 4th round on 29th January.
