Anne Williams - a plea in peace from one place to another

Obviously Rumpole and S.B. are correct. Was very surprised when i read the post from Harinder. Just for the record the petition has gone over the 100,000 mark so it may get a mention in Parliament. Unfortunately this may all be too late for Anne though as the last i heard she was very poorly in a Hospice in Southport. I also know that she is very grateful to the people who started the petition and says she would like to thank everyone who took the time to sign it.

An application by The Attorney General has been lodged to the high court. This requests that the original verdicts of accidental deaths be quashed and paves the way for new inquests.

Rumpole So this petition has achieved absolutely nothing then?

Well no because the pressure put on the attorney general by the petition has resulted in the application to the high court. Without the petition the process may have taken a lot longer and Anne is very short of time.

Rumpole Nope, this was always pretty much the timescale if memory serves - and the petition called for her to be treated differently. She's being treated no differently to anyone else. But, ya know, hundred thousand self-pitying scousers get to feel better about themselves, so there's always an upside to such emotional clap trap riding roughshod all over the Rule of Law.

If you think 100,000 of the people who signed this are scousers you are very much mistaken. speaking to my mp Steve Rotherham last night and he assures me, having spoken to the attorney general that the petition had a direct effect on the timescale.

What a condescending and soulless thing to write.
If football fans considered that signing a petition gave them the feeling that their voice and support were in a small way helping this lady to cope with a very difficult emotional time then they should not be derided by some smart ass junior barrister who feels that the process of law is the only thing that matters in life.
You may have thought this but sometimes people's thoughts should be kept to themselves rather than coming out with a sweeping statement (generalisation at it's worst) such as "self-pitying scousers" and "emotional claptrap".
God forbid that you ever have children or any form of emotional attachment to another human being.

Why don't you and Baines run off together into the sunset and spend many happy hours sniping as you both do on here, picking on minor points but generally not seeing the bigger picture?

NFA has hijacked Rumpole's account.

Rumpole Just seen that Anne Williams has now been given leave to make her own separate application. So the petition may well have achieved something. Genuinely pleased for her but still really not pleased at the general constitutional cost.

Steve Rotherham in genuine itk  not shock

Serious question:

Why don't you put as much effort into outing those that killed innocent Juve fans at Heysel as you do into the Jf96?

27 were arrested and 14 did time for manslaughter. Clearly not enough but far more than zero as is the case for Hillsborough. Seeing as the TV footage from the day that i've seen is mostly of aftermath and it is such an poor ground i doubt there was CCTV either making conviction nearly impossible.

It isnt a serious question. You do not use tradgedys to ask serious questions you use them for pathetic point scoring and saying things like 96wne. However i will humour you with a serious answer. Heysel wasnt covered up by the police. There was a serious investigation. I dont think anyone set out to kill people at Heysel so murder charges were inappropriate. However, anyone who was regarded as a ringleader/troublemaker was tracked down and, if there was enough evidence, charged with manslaughter. Some, i think 14 were quite rightly convicted and imprisoned. Hillsborough was different, those people who were very well payed to provide a duty of care and failed were never brought to account. However, in my opinion these are not the ones i want to see punished. The worst are the people who besmirched my City with lies and those that doctored statements, which is surely a criminal offence, in a bid to shift the blame onto the likes of myself.

Get over yourself you silly fat cow. At Heysel your fans committed cold blooded murder. At Hillsborough the copper made an error of judgement only after you All started pushing, shoving, jumping fences etc.

You are filth and deserve to be burnt alive.

There was plenty of good quality CCTV but it 'went missing' and is included in numerous reports.

Good jibbing no? Isn't this the kind of stuff that normally makes you hard if United fans are doing it?
