Cartagena throwing away their automatic promotion chances recently :(

FC Andorra looking in with a shot of pushing for promotion to La Liga. They are owned by Gerard Pique and were in the 7th tier a decade ago

Winston Biscuit Braga on a great run in Portugal. Beat league leaders Benfica 3-0 a couple of weeks back and now in 2nd place, 4 points off the top. Though 4 points is a lot in the Portuguese league

7 points from the last 3 games for Saint-Etienne gets them off the foot of the Ligue 2 table and are now 3rd from bottom. Le Havre starting to run away with it at the top. they have had 2 seasons in Ligue 1 in the last 20

Would be nice if Braga could win it and become just the 3rd time that the league has not been won by one of the big 3.

Bundesliga restarts tonight after 2 months off as Bayern travel to Leipzig. 1st travel to 3rd.

Bayern can open up a 7 point gap over Freiburg with a win, a Leipzig win will see them up to 2nd at least until Freiburg play tomorrow.

No doubt they will appeal it and drag it out for ages

Milan lost 4-0 last night to Lazio meaning Napoli remain 12 points clear but having now played the same as everyone else. Napoli have only dropped 7 points all season. With Inter also losing on Monday night the race for the other CL spots looks really exciting in Serie A

I am so disappointed in Barcelona's resurgence this season. mainly as they are a pretty dis-likable club, but I also have money on Real Madrid winning the league. Barcelona have only conceded 6 goals in the league so far this season

Funny how teams drop, Pescara and Crotone were not long ago in Serie A. I suppose it's like some of the clubs in League One these days, although they seem to have dropped into Serie C relatively quickly.

Quick google search shows that Crotone were in Serie A in 2020/21 season and suffered successive relegations to Serie C and Pescara were relegated in 2017 from Serie A.

Venezia in the Serie B relegation zone having only come down from Serie A last season (and only gone up to Serie A the season before). Maybe in a league where the riches are not as great as the PL going up for just a season is not such a great thing

Parachute payments in Italy are only for 1 year and are structured based on how many seasons you spent in Serie A (the longer you were there the more you get)

Might do a deep dive into european parachute payments at some point to see how they compare to ours

French Ligue 2 offer them for 2 years -year 1 has a fixed €2M amount and year 2 has a fixed €1M amount, then in addition clubs receive a variable amount based on how many seasons they spent in Ligue 1 over the previous decade. As of 4 years ago the average variable amount given was €4.9M.

Spain, Germany & France tie in parachute payment amounts to the tv deal that top 2 divisions get as they are part of the same organisation within their countries and negotiate them together. 2nd tiers in Italy & England are completely seperate to the top divisions in their respective countries

Possibly not but a quick scan of Crotone's situation would suggest that cutting costs was a big factor for them on relegation and may have been a factor when suffering relegation again. I suppose that strengthens the argument of parachute payments in England, as the whole principle is to stop teams falling into financial trouble.

Having said that, I suppose the emphasis in then on the clubs to spend correctly, rather than bursting the bank to try and stay up. It's trying to find a happy medium I guess.

Some crazy scorelines since the restart in the Bundesliga and I don't mean Bayern only drawing their first 2.

Cologne 7 Bremen 1
Wolfsburg 6 Freiburg 0
Hertha 0 Wolfsburg 5
Dortmund 4 Augsburg 3
Schalke 1 Leipzig 6 - Schalke's second 6-1 home defeat this season.

Schalke are the walking dead this season just 9pts after 17 games with the worst attack (just 12 goals) and the weakest defence (41).

If Eintracht win at a demoralised Freiburg tonight, they will close the gap to Bayern to 3 points before heading there at the weekend.

It's funny as I thought that about Bochum early doors this season. Lost their first 6 games (including 7-0 to Bayern), no win until the 9th game and just 4 points after 10. Won their last 3 games though which has pulled them out of the drop zone, but still very much in trouble.

Just goes to show how bad Schalke have been.

Bochum just needed a bit of confidence - Eintracht helped them get that by playing a experimental formation and side before a big CL game - they we're playing too badly outside the 7-0 but then they played Bayern at the beginning of the year when they were scoring for fun (6-1 win at Eintracht to).

Schalke have been abject - results show it. 2 6-1 defeats, a 4-0, 2 3-0's and a 5-1 in the cup - they've barely been competitive. They were Champions of 2.Bundesliga last year but it was a very even division, they lost 9 times on the way to the title. They'll get another chance to win that division next year.

Yeah it was close last year but even still Werder Bremen seem to have settled quite well. Far from safe but in a decent enough position as it is. Both clubs have been a bit of a mess for a while though.

Listened to a podcast on this today and they confirmed Kulusevski and Ronaldo can't get this 30 day ban as they never signed a side letter.

That article seems very clickbaity

Was just reading about Will Still, a 30 year old who last month became manager of Reims in Ligue 1. From an English family and says he considers himself to be English, but was born and raised in Belgium.
