Lack of movement up front is absolutely killing Liverpool's attacking football. The likes of Sterling, Lallana, Markovic have no runners to pick out, not channels to run into created by incisive runs of Suarez or Sturridge.

This is why i don't understand the purchase of Balotelli and Lambert

Even someone like Shane Long would have been a better buy - at least he runs and works for the team

Does that matter if a player flicks his hand at somebody's face?* If you throw a punch and miss you are still sent off. The lack of contact just highlights the Liverpool player's stupidity, and doesn't bring into question the referee's decision.

Well you've answered your own question. Throwing a punch is a red card. Flicking your hand out (Markovic clearly pre-empted contact, it was a 'hand off' ) is not.

Markovic didn't need to do it. But it was a terrible decision, imho. Referee obviously decided Markovic was lashing out, but I don't think that was the case.

any kind of contact with the face is a red these days so the Liverpool player should have been more careful, but they seriously need to bring in a rule where both players can be booked - one for the 'foul', one for exaggerating the injury and trying to get the opponent sent off

Good to see Basel use their European experience last night.

The sending off didn't make any difference, Liverpool were shite before that happened and were slightly less shite with 10 men.

I've watched the replay a couple of times and he looked to where the other bloke was, before flinging an arm out - it was a deliberate decision, using a very obvious arm movement, and more LOLz at him for not actually being able to do it properly.
