Hoop Blah Some interesting views in this BBC piece after last nights win over an average League Two side.

http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/30691946

I've always been quite a Gerrard fan, and they will obviously miss him, but to say he dragged them through last night and that the goals were the only two moments of quality is overstating it quite a bit!

I think we're in for 5 months of this kind of thing.

My thoughts exactly. He has been a phenomenal player, but his form has dropped off considerably in the last 18 months, and I don't think they'll miss him. In fact were I Rodgers I'd be bedding Henderson in the Gerrard role now.

LFC forums were apoplectic when Rodgers dropped Manquillo for Gerrard against Leicester, shifting Henderson to right-back. Destroyed the dynamism they'd seen against Swansea.

To be fair, he did produce the two goals that won it for them. The dribbling over him was pretty standard for such a big name player IMO.

Now he's saying he would have stayed if they'd offered him a contract sooner. What a baby.

The media machine behind Gerrard is still in full swing.

Quite surprising for a player, who mainly, is a specialist in failure.

And your yardstick for failure is just a couple of FA Cups and a Champions League win?

No Premier League title?

Yes. Especially when you play for a MASSIVE club like Liverpool. I'm sure Xavi or Iniesta or Lampard or Scholes would class that as failure.

Neither Xavi or Iniesta have won a premiership. I'm sure none of those players consider Gerrard a failure at any level. But please don't let that worry you too much.

But Xavi and Iniesta have won domestic titles, which Gerrard has never done and will never do.

And failure at any level? Didn't really shine in an England shirt did he?

Don't know whether it's true or not but someone said the other day that Gerrard is the only player to have scored in a League Cup Final, FA Cup Final, Uefa (Europa) Cup Final and a European (Champions League) Cup Final.

Whatever your opinion of him I think you'd have to have something of an agenda to describe his career as a failure just because he never won his domestic league.

It's a failure compared to the other midfielders I mentioned.

Which puts him in good, or more accurately bad, company with everyone else who has played for England since 1996.

But that's not what you said Frimmers. To site Steven Gerrard as a failure in football is a bit like calling Richard Branson a failure because he's not made as much money as Bill Gates.

By which logic I suppose every player in the world is a failure compared to someone, making it a bit of a contentless assertion.

Sorry to butt into Kes's indulgence, but since when has one player ever won or lost any team silverware?
