From the Mirror:
Leeds will pay the fee for Luke Varney straight to ex-club Derby rather than current employers Pompey due to cash still owed to the Rams by the South Coast club

Pretty sad that they haven't finished paying them off. At least Leeds aren't chumps and have decided to do the honourable thing and give Derby the cash directly instead of letting it disappear at Portsmouth.

http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/pompey/pompey-past/midfielder-gives-pompey-deadline-to-sign-him-1-4076349

Brian Howard has set Pompey a deadline of August 1 to secure his signature.

The former Reading man is currently training with the Blues and been pinpointed by Michael Appleton as a potentially pivotal signing.

There are no shortage of options for Howard, with clubs from the Championship, League One and League Two interested in the free agent.

At present, though, the Blues are in pole position for the New Forest-based midfielder.

The sticking point, as ever, continues to be their inability to sign players while the Football League demand the continued slashing of the club’s mammoth wage bill. (more in the link)

Haven't they been liquidated yet? I thought they were mean to run out of what money they did have at the end of last month.

It could happen, agent Kitson (+ 7 others) is refusing to leave and that will bankrupt them

‘There’s intransience when it comes to getting them moving out or compromising. We are at a stalemate and that is why the start of the season has to be in jeopardy.

‘We are having trouble with more or less all the players. A lot of them are not prepared to take any compromise deal over a period of time.

‘They want it straight up and not over the time period I am suggesting which is four years and written into the CVA.

‘With Luke Varney, he has agreed matters with Leeds but we are not agreed on a compromise.

‘We are talking with Ben Haim and an agreement cannot be reached because of his demands. While with Kitson and his agent there is no compromise and no wish to come to an agreement.

‘I think there is an element of putting their head in the sand believing all of it will go away.

For Pompey yes. They have been told they have to settle all footballing debts before the new CVA can be agreed. So what do they do? Bleat at all their players to leave and settle for less than they are owed.

But Andronikou said: "We have had to push out the boat for Kitson and Lawrence.

"Their wages are £19,000 and £20,000 but it was something we are comfortable with.

"Gone are the days when extraordinary pay packets put the club in financial trouble.''

If you were Leeds, would you pay a fee for Varney or wait a few weeks for liquidation and get him for nothing?

I really wonder where all the money is coming from to keep them going at the moment. They seem to have had no money since the administration yet still carry on. Apart from the parachute payment (to get to the end of the season) and the odd player sale, where is the money coming from? Certainly not from ST sales.

Pompeys administrators say the club only have a few weeks to resolve issues before they fold

How many times can this club have 'a few weeks left'???

Must admit - it's kind of poetic justice that it might be Kitson putting the final nail in this morally and financially bankrupt outfit, bearing in mind their "performance" -v- Fulham!!

I just want them to die, and slowly!!

No sympathy here I'm afraid

Hmmmmm.......

"Former owner Chanrai had looked set to regain ownership of the League One club.

Pompey's current creditors accepted a CVA offer from Chainrai worth two pence in the pound on 25 June and he had 28 days to make good on his proposal buy the club.

However, administrator Trevor Birch revealed on 13 July that Chainrai had been left "reeling" by the Football League penalties imposed the previous day and that the former owner could now pull out of the deal."

How long has he - legally - got left to buy the club?? Because 28 days from the 26th of June (day after the CVA was agreed) is today.....

Why would anyone agree to anything Pompey say they'll do under the terms of a CVA when the previous CVA agreed to pay in full the smaller debts (less than 1k?) but those creditors have actually been paid fvck all?

^This.

It's beyond my comprehension how this club continues to be.

I also thought that any potential takeover had to be ratified, and that part of that process was the determination that the owner could continue to club as a going concern. How does Chainrai provide that? He's only trying to get his money back.

How many years of parachute payments do they have to come?

Surely Chanrai will stump up the cash to keep Dave above the poverty line rather than miss out on millions?

Tour Diary of their 4-0 defeat in Gibraltar - reminds me when that kid got a photo and autograph from Andronikou.

Portsmouth.co.uk A captain should be diplomatic, respectful and should address the match officials in a dignified manner at all times.

Perhaps Sam Magri should take note.

The 18-year-old was as proud as they come, having been asked by Michael Appleton to skipper the side against Gibraltar.

It meant the world to the Fratton youngster, born and bred within the city with blue blood coursing through his veins.

However, he could not but help be disappointed by the subsequent 4-0 defeat on Friday– and the dubious performance of the rather-portly match referee.

Still, at least Magri bottled up his criticism until walking away from the stadium with other members of the touring squad as they headed for the team bus.

At that point, he exploded with a furious diatribe and some particularly forthright views while debating the match officials’ performance.

Unfortunately, the defender didn’t realise the gentlemen walking right in front of him were the very same controversial referee and linesman from the Gibraltar match – and from their reaction, they heard every word.

Autograph hunters were out in force by the picturesque Gibraltar harbour following Pompey’s defeat.

It’s just a shame none of them were too familiar with Pompey.

A young lady with a teddy bear posed next to Mick ‘Beef’ Cornett, from the medical department, for a photograph and was genuinely delighted with her find.

A few other Gibraltan fans followed her lead after sensing they were in the presence of somebody important.

Meanwhile, kit man John Wilson was mightily chuffed when a man drinking a bottle of beer observed from the bar that he ‘looks like a footballer’.

Not sure all Fareham Town fans will agree, having seen him perform on the pitch in recent times.

Then there was masseur Colin Clement, who was approached by a rather merry gentleman in the aftermath of a glorious victory.

‘Excuse me,’ he enquired, ‘Aren’t you the Pompey manager? Show us your guns.’

Thankfully, Colin declined to pretend to be king and pointed him in the right direction
