Man Friday
Jackson Corner Am I the only one who thinks Rooney not playing is a good thing? He has never fullfilled the promise Euro 2004. Most of his goals since have been against tin pot nations in Qaulifying. He has failed to deliver in finals. And has once again shown tonight he is a liabilaty with his temper.

Agree 100%. Most overrated player ever. Would be a blessing if he had to miss the whole tournamant so we wouldn't try to rely on him only for him to let us down (by either not being as good as hoped, by being sent off or by being injured and unavailable).
World class? You're having a larf. We haven't had a world class player (i.e. someone who would get into a World XI, or even World squad) since Bobby Charlton. (Keegan for a Europe XI)

cmonurz Stuart Pearce will be the next England manager.

We'll see. He's the only one I'd confidently put money on at the moment. If pushed Coppell as a second choice. Curbishley's long-term absence from the game will count against him, Redknapp and Allardyce have too much baggage and I think both are over-rated. O'Neill isn't English.

Pardew might be in the mix come next summer.

What exactly has Pearce done to deserve being England manager? - if he was any good then he would have been at a top club by now

Hodgson is my personal favourite for the role (ignore the Liverpool job as he was never going to succeed there with "king kenny" in the background)

Pearce is definitely not the right man. Not bright enough. Hodgson would be a good call. If Redknapp wasn't absent as some suggest he too would be worth a punt.

Mr Angry can't see the players really giving a monkey's when they know the manager is a deadman walking, and we saw it last night.

Yep, had the players thought that Venables was staying on after '96, I reckon that Gazza would have reached that cross.

Only if you're deluded enough to believe England are better than they are.

The amount of pressure that would be put on his shoulders would be far too much for him. The Liverpool job left him looking like a lost and confused mole that had just been raped by a badger.

Sorry but Hodgson is a terrible shout....take a look at yourselves.

There is only one real man who could get the best out of this negative football playing group of England players. His name is jose mourinho. You all hate him, but he has the best credentials by an ABSOLUTE MILE.

Sadly, for the majority of them and excepting the youngest players, playing for england isn't much more than a chore.

They're wholly owned by their clubs, who don't want them to be on intrnational duty - and it's another game in a long season, but a game which doesn't add to the season or to the competitions that matter most to them - and for a manager who they don't respect and who they resent because he tried to impose control onto them.

Also, when they're at tournaments or on England duty, the regime is one that makes them rebel. At their clubs they train between 9 am and 12 or so and then can do what they want for the rest of the day. On England duty they're fully controlled for the full 24 hours and they're such spoilt brats they don't like that level of control.

But her comes across as an odious, horrible, arrogant, violent man......oh wait a minute, he would fit in quite well

I don't think he's violent or horrible, but I can see why he is disliked. He is however an absolute no brainer of a choice and the FA ( who unfortunately rarely have brains) should go all out to get him.

sandman What a difference between the Czech player who was sent off against Spain last night and Rooney. Terrible tackle that could've broken Xabi Alonso's leg, he didn't argue with the Ref and just wanted to make sure Alonso was ok.

Spain had 81% possession in that game! Quite ridiculous but thoroughly impressive at the same time. The bloke above wasn't sent-off early on either, he went in the 70th minute.

How on earth could a team of England's limited quality ever compete on that sort of level?

Massive over-reaction. Which one of our coaches taunted Ian holloway about his wife having cancer? Was it downes? Thats worse IMO. Poke in the eye or someone mocking a dying loved one.

Bareclona are an infuriating club, yes they are great at playing football but EVERYTHING goes their way, all the decisions and their play acting...no suprise people get annoyed and react.

"Only with Wally Downes does Ollie eschew praise with faint damnation in favour of a full-on, and fully deserved, kicking after the former Wimbledon man cracked wise about the new boy’s wife’s chemotherapy."

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2007 ... ry.sport10

"When Holloway was struggling at Wimbledon and Brentford in the mid 1980s, Kim developed non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and had to undergo chemotherapy. 'What's it like dating a baldy bird?' asked the ever-charming Wally Downes, a team-mate at Wimbledon."

However I think calling either him or mourinho "scum" is over the top. People make mistakes by doing and saying stupid things they regret.
