Ark Royal Was thinking Whittingham, but he is playing as if he is on the beach already.

My only concern with Whittingham, having seen him a couple of times this season, is that he plays good football, but doesn't seem to do any damage. I know he's been played quite deep, but I can't help wondering if that's because he's lost a yard of pace / bit of skill / bit of desire and can't really hurt teams in the final third anymore.

A player with his scoring record to seemingly be played as the deep playmaker unless he's seriously on the wane seems baffling otherwise.

It is because he is just over-rated. I've said this before and got hammered for it, so I expect the same now. Good at set-pieces....but otherwise average.

He has a very good cross on him, and then as you say the set-pieces. He's been a very good player for them. I'd argue he was an immediate improvement on Robson-Kanu and Antonio, and possibly the enigma Jimmy Kebe. He's also been used more recently in a central role. I'm not sure if that suits him or not. Judging by tonight's comments possibly not. Let's see if gazza's rumour is true though. I wouldn't be disappointed if it was.

I'd rather have Gunnarsson

Imagine Pearce and Gorkss on the end of one of those throws

Think he (Whittingham) could be an excellent player in the centre with a bit of coaching. He's a fantastic passer, gets the ball out wide quickly, and is considerably more mobile than Matejovsky (the most obvious RFC comparison).

Don't think that Cardiff are getting the best out of him.

They looked absolute meat and drink for any decent CB... as virtually all long throws do.

Cardiff looked absolutely terrible. Amazed we lost to them twice this season.

No belief, no guile, no class, nothing.

West Ham miles better.

They were half decent when we played them, since the Carling cup final, they have been average at best.

Another fantastic choke job from Cardiff, the football league's Buffalo Bills, I'm sure their fans would be happier if they just stayed around mid-table each year

Their fans were shocking too - soooooooo quiet, and instead of getting behind the team they started booing when the ball was passed backwards etc

Anyway, lets hope they turn up for the 2nd leg

tbh i can't see past West Ham winning this [the play offs] - they looked good, no idea why people say they play long ball football - everytime i've seen them, they knock it around quite nicely

Do me a favour and stop bringing US sport analogies into the sacred world of association football.

If you want to describe the Buffalo Bills to us you can say "the Cardiff City of the NFL" if you like

whu fans were really taunting cardiff fans all night too. Superb noise when they scored, lots of gesturing and waving, etc great stuff. even green at the end was gesturing towards them.

some serious tail between legs by cardiff fans.

I couldn't help thinking what carnage this game would have been if it were 10 years ago at Ninian Park

Great start to this one. Fancy either of these to smash the Hammers on a big pitch like Wembley
