Not the most exciting game to watch so far, but definite signs of progress under Hodgson.

Need to tie Sterling down to England in the next qualifier, proper winger.

I'd say its unlikely he'll choose Jamaica over England.

I dunno, I'd say the draw of playing with Rodolph Austin and Adrian Mariappa is pretty strong

TBM Who do you reckon will be the next country to dominate the International scene after Spain have had their go?!

Brazil are starting to look strong again but i've heard a lot about Japan - apparently their energy, movement, ability on the ball is far superior at U16 level than other international countries

Who do you tip to be the next "big force" in world football? - or do you feel Spain will hold on to it for a long time to come?

Neither Brazil nor Japan are letting me down 8)

Egypt and Chile both look decent in the Under 20s World Cup, can't see England getting out of the group

TBM i've heard a lot about Japan - apparently their energy, movement, ability on the ball is far superior at U16 level than other international countries

One great thing about Japanese football is that at High School level the game has real significance with a prestigious tournament taking place each year with a televised, National Stadium sell-out final. It gives players at that age real experience of competitive, consequential, tournament-style football which can only be a good thing for their future development.

At Olympic and Youth Level the National Team enjoys a level of support you don't get in other countries. In England it's only really the obscurantists and die-hard fans that are aware the U-20s or U-21s are playing in a tournament. In Japan those games are shown in pubs at 1am live, and the place is packed.

Just as well given the FA and England manager's attitude to this year's U-21 finals in including some of the better players from that set up in 2 totally meaningless and pointless friendlies instead

Shouldn't they have been playing in the u20's then not yet another Euros?

What would be the point of sending young players to the Euros for however many weeks of preparation and potentially 5 games before a hard season earning their place in the squad for Brazil next summer. We'd end up looking back and moaning that they'd been burnt out by playing too many games!
