Ian Royal Liverpool are a bit of a non-entity now though, so none of that is relevant to the current team.

Lets see. Since the turn of the century, 1 Champions league, 1 UEFA Cup, 2 FA Cups, 3 League Cups, 2 European Super Cups and 2 Community Shields.
Currently 3rd in the prem.
Non entity ? Don't be ridiculous.

What have they won in the last 5 years? What's are their PL placings in that time?

Do you seriously think they'll last the distance and finish in the CL places? Or even in the top six?

Congratulations, it's one Carling Cup and a runners up in the PL. With the average PL finish of 7th (mode). Also-rans at the moment. Maybe in a year or two it'll be different. Right now it isn't.

Nameless Seems some of you need to rethink your ideas !

Respecting a club isn't just about what they did last weekend or last season. Liverpool are a pretty special club with a pretty unique history. Just because you weren't around in the days of Shankley, Paisley, Fagin and can't be bothered to find out that doesn't take away from an amazing period in football. The Kop was also a pretty special place for many years.

The Suarez incident was a pretty sorry time but doesn't in anyway detract from what went before.

Sky has a lot to answer for.

And Ian, check out the difference between a club and a team.....

When I was into The Tweenies and Blue Peter, maybe Liverpool still meant something to someone. Now they mean oxf*rd all. They fluked a CL win and since then they've gone into the wilderness as City and Spurs have emerged as genuine powers. I respect Paisley & Shankly in the same way I respect Harald Hadrada. I couldn't give a shit.

Yes that's right but why 5 years ? why not 8 ? Because you would have to add a champions league and an FA Cup to that. Meanwhile, Arsenal, who I don't mind by the way, have won nothing since our champions league win. Are they a non entity too ?

Well Arsenal have qualified for champions league football every year under Wenger! Year after year they compete at the top in terms of European football.. They always seem to get through the group stages there too! Liverpool cant say the same.. Been ages since they won the league and havent had the same consistency Arsenal have had through that time so the comparison doesn't really stand :| Theres a difference between not winning anything and not being in competition

Not that I agree they are a non entity! They are just not as big a club as many of their fans pretend they still are!

I hope Arsenal fans enjoy the open top bus tour to celebrate qualolifying for the champions league, i'd prefer the 3 cups we have had since they last won one every day of the week.

Now that is funny-Spurs "emerged as genuine powers".
Shall we just wait a while and see what they win as it is now over 50 years since they won the Premier English title and since then Liverpool have become one of the biggest clubs in the world.

No I don't forget at all. I was laughing at someone suggesting that they have become a genuine power in recent times. I mean how long is it since they finished top 3 or won a trophy. Nothing against Spurs or Arsenal tbh.

christ, Liverpool fans banging on about other teams' failure to win the title?

I'm 35 and I only have the very vaguest memories of Liverpool being a top side. More than two decades without a title win and you're having a pop at Arsenal? Absolute lol.

Can't help but think thousands are scousers are going to wake up one morning and have a hell of a shock when they find out it's not the mid-80s anymore

How many teams have retained the champions league in this format? Bayern are a very good side but so were Barca a couple of years ago, hailed as the best ever in some quarters and they didn't win it two years running.

I'm not sure about that.

Giroud much better than last year.

Ozil better than anything they've had in recent years.

Ramsey a revelation.

Sagna back to fitness and form.

Chesney back on form.

Wilshere's fitness (somewhat) more reliable.

Walcott and Ox to come back.

So many reasons to think they will continue to be better than last year.

Why 13 years and not 3?

Because it's half a decade and covers recent history nicely. If I was going to be selective I'd pick 4 years so liverpool hadn't finished in the top 4. Arsenal have been finishing top 4 and are looking possible title contenders this seaosn. But the whole point was that I respect Arsenal for the sensible way the club is run and the excellent football. Not the comparative success. And I respect utd for the tremendous long running success. Neither apply to also rans Liverpool.

2nd in 2009 which is a lot more recent than Spurs. Oh and we won a cup since then and Spurs have not won one of them for ages.

Erm, sorry Ian but 4 years ago was 2009 and Liverpool finished 2nd then. If Liverpool are 'also rans' and 'non entities' like you have said, what does that make your team ?
