Pepe the Horseman Insigne leaving Napoli for Toronto at the end of the season. He's only 30, seems a bit of a waste.

I meant to post that along with just the same sentiment a few days ago. He is a sensational player, moving to the MLS at that age seems a right waste

I read that he was on £85k a week at Napoli and their new contract offer to him was at 50% less. Toronto are offering £175k a week basic + various bonuses.

Would've thought he'd be a perfect Newcastle signing if they stayed up. Nuts how Toronto can pay him that much.

yeah I thought the MLS had strict wage caps etc

I also just calculated that with his new wage his income tax drops from 43% to 33% too. Everything's coming up Lorenzo it seems!

Donny Ironside Somehow Barcelona buy ferran torres despite being financially oxf*rd :|

Like any big deal, the fee will be made up of loads of bonuses and spread over the length of the contract.

Winston Biscuit Everton sign right back Nathan Patterson from Rangers for £12M + 4M

Cracking bit of business. Stepping stone to a bigger club tho.

Trippier to Newcastle for €15M + €7M

Swapping Champions League knockout football for a relegation scrap seems a bit mentz from the outside. I guess he maybe just really want to be living back in England.

He would've have been badly paid at Atletico, would he? Maybe there is a fat bonus for surviving relegation, plus like you said, he may just want to be back in England.

I'm not sure Atletico pay that much, part of their ethos I think. Obviously their elite players will be on a decent amount but I think the bit part players like Trippier would be on a reasonably low amount. Trippier gets a guaranteed start at Newcastle each week which is important at his age, plus there is probably a relegation release clause in there too. Good move for him IMO.

He was regularly said to be one of AM best players last season, and is always in the starting XI when available

Do Spanish teams have registration limits on non-EU or non-Spanish players? Might be a reason why they are letting him go on the cheaper side, to free up a space.

Also if he only has 12-18m left on his contract, that would also be another reason to let him go on the cheaper side.

Looking at the table, Atletico haven't done too well this season and are well off the pace. Have to wonder if there is a bit of a fire sale going on there in order to free up space and think more about the future. Trippier isn't getting any younger.

€22M. Have your based your entire assumption of him being a 'bit part player' on his transfer fee?

Because he has told them he no longer wants to play for them

At least you have admitted it was just an assumption on your part

It does but each team is allowed to designate 3 players exempt from the salary cap and more or less pay them what they like. It's how they attract players like Rooney and Lampard to MLS.

It's basically what scuppered Mannone's move to Minnesota a couple of years ago. He wanted to be one of the designated players but they wanted to save the slot for a genuine cap buster and offered him less than what he wanted (a figure that would still have made him the highest paid keeper in MLS, about $800,000 a year IIRC).

not surprised they got him on what seems a relatively cheap deal.... The one Nicky Hammond has just recently been brought in as their DOF

Trippier has been keen on a move back to England and it makes sense really.

Even if Newcastle do go down, they will be able to keep most of the players that they sign this window really and providing they go back up at the first attempt (very likely), they won't go down again as they'll bring in the necessary quality to make sure they comfortably survive. I actually think they will stay up this season to be fair.

They are only 1 win away from being outside the bottom 4. If Howe can't get them out the bottom 3 with the money and pull that Newcastle have now then he is a total failure
