so which reading player is it?

by frimmers3 » 21 Aug 2010 20:09

Aldershot manager Kevin Dillon claims that he is on the verge of bringing a big name player to the Recreation Ground.

The Shots' boss has exclusively told skysports.com that he is hopeful of signing the mystery player from the Championship before the 31st August transfer deadline.

The League Two side have picked up four points from their opening two games and Dillon is looking to build upon that good start to the season.

Although the 49-year-old manager is more than happy with his current squad, he admits that bringing in a big name signing could be key to the side's promotion push.

"I'm very happy with the squad at the moment and you never say never when it comes to signing new players," he said.

"I am looking at one Championship player who is out of favour at his club at the moment and isn't playing.

"It would be a long shot if we could bring him to Aldershot and he would be a very big signing for this club.

"I'm not prepared to say who he is, but I've admired him for a long time and we'll see how things develop."

I've never had a problem with Savage the player but Savage the pundit is a complete tit.

Sorry, just thought I'd chuck that in.

neither of those are "big name" players. you could get both on the back of one shirt.

Not sure Scott Davies meets any single one of the criteria in the OP....

Although of course for the Might Shots he would be a big name signing.

Not in any way I can think of.

You're being conned again if someone claiming to be Teddy Sheringham is offering to play for you.

in 1984-85, Aldershot took a young striker at the time on loan from Millwall - Teddy Sheringham. Millwall manager George Graham had been willing to sell Sheringham to Aldershot on a permanent basis, but they couldn't raise the £5,000 fee. perhaps because "f.c" were about to go bust.

Oddly I had no idea about that utterly uninteresting piece of information. I wasn't aware you were about to go bust again, tough luck.

He has a point Frimmers.

25 years ago a player briefly played on loan at Aldershot, 15 years later he won a Champions League medal. That's an extremely tenuous link.

If it really floats your boat then the answer is that yes, we have had a player who won a European Cup medal playing in the Reading shirt.

So end of discussion really.

Change of name does not change the matter in question (much like with football clubs...)
