I noticed this the other day actually, but totally forgot about the issue with Southampton banning press.

They had a small piece about Steve Wigley going to Bristol City and referred to him as the former manager of a southcoast side. I just thought it was extremely lazy journalism that they couldn't arsed to check which club it was he managed!

The real reasoning is down the owners not allowing local or national press into the ground to get pictures of the game. So the Sun in 'protest' are failing to acknowledge Southampton in their reports, calling them everything else but. So south coast side, the Hampshire based team, the home team etc

because you patently had seen the Sun, formed your own opinion and answered your own question, but then seen fit to ask the question of others...who probably won't have seen the Sun to know what context you are "quoting" because they don't read comics. They will have thought - rightly - that you are asking why they refer to them in the body of reports as that rather than employing a policy of protest by actually renaming them as an anonymous team.
