NathStPaul Liverpool were really poor. Sour grapes at the end too, what were they expecting United to do? Go there and play open and attacking football? United's game plan was really good, thought they were unlucky not to nick it at the end. They look much more solid without Fernandes in the side, makes me wonder if they'd be better playing him as a false 9 when he returns and just keep that midfield solidity.

Weren't at their best, but one of those games where on another day they win 3-0, and everyone is talking about Salah being past his best but still getting goals, or whatever.

Liverpool definitely missing Mac Allister - but the front three were all below par yesterday. Diaz doesn't look like the player he was before his injury. Doesn't take players on any more.

Why didn't Nunez get a second yellow for sarcastic applauding the referee after being booked, while Dalot got a second yellow for protesting?

Yep, saw that too, but the story goes he was actually clapping the opposing player but not been picked up by tv cameras to confirm that.

It remains a bit too subjective/based on the mood of the referee though. What crosses the line? Shouting? Waving arms? Nunez was booked for his poor challenge, but certainly 'remonstrated'. Van Dijk got an extra game suspension this season for, apparently, just disagreeing with the ref and telling him so after his red card.

Devils advocate here.. just because a TV camera picks it up, does that mean the referee/assistant see it?

first time they have played a double pivot, hence looking more defensive.

BRO_BOT p.s. Nunez is not very good

Although I haven't seen much to suggest they will, I know they could all come good in the end, but who looks to be the biggest waste of money right now?

Nunez for £64m + add ons. (5 years)
Hojlund for £64m + add ons. (5 years)
Nicolas Jackson for £32m. (8 years)

I'd go reverse order

NJ, RH, Nunez

Worth pointing out here that whilst his playing style makes Nunez look like Maradona, Jackson has three more league goals (seven) than Nunez and Hojlund 'combined'.

Are we putting an asterix next to the hattrick against Spurs as they'd been down to 9 men for a while before he scored?

Also am I the only one thinking Gakpo is getting a bit of an easy ride, he's been way less effective than Nunez and seems to have escaped any criticism.

There's a general dysfunctionality about the front line at the moment. Some commentary on LFC social media that Mac Allister is the biggest miss and that his absence is seeing TAA and Szoboszlai occupying the same space on the field - that all reducing the effectiveness of the front three.

Neither Diaz or Gakpo have really performed in the last month.

I've been surprised too given his good form as a sub and for England Under 21s that Klopp hasn't given Harvey Elliott some starts. He is really starting to come good on his early promise.

Yeah I have never been that sold on Gakpo either, he just doesn't seem to impact the game all that much when I see him play. Outside of Salah obviously, I always thought Diaz was the next most effective front player for Liverpool, but he seems to have fallen off a bit this season probably with his situation and injuries he's had. A lot of money has been spent on their forwards, only a matter of time before they start getting scrutinised.

Still yet to be convinced of TAA's hybrid role. Midfield seems to lose the balance when he's in the centre, and Salah plays better when TAA is behind or overlapping. The bigger problem is the lack of a top-level holding midfielder and the fullback replacements aren't great. Gomez is a shadow of the player he was a few years ago, and Tsimikas is a pretty poor version of Robertson. If he'd been fit and TAA played more conventionally they'd have opened up the pitch to allow Salah and Diaz to do their stuff. Surprised Elliott and Jones didn't get more minutes. Should have been the changes when Szoboszlai and Gravenberch came off.

According to 'pool fans he's gone off the boil and has been just "cruising" for the last few games. Shame, he looks real class when he does turn up.

Think TAA is much better midfielder than defender but Klopp doesn't seem to want to make that change permanently (although Southgate does). There are rumours that Liverpool will sign Jeremie Frimpong in January, or over the summer, so that might well change the dynamic for Jurgen.

This could be a real problem for Liverpool - Klopp and the club are inextricably linked. Van Dijk coy on his future. Salah will surely be off in the summer now too.

Liverpool are looking at completing a defensive overhaul this year anyway as they know VVD is knocking on a bit and Matip is ooc, while Salah is someone they could well be in two minds about as the Saudi money likely to be thrown at them in the summer might well be too good to resist.

Both of them are knocking on a bit and possibly past their best
