Midfield rebuild starting

MacAllister about to arrive for around £50m

Next up the rumours are suggesting Franck Kessie, Manu Kone and Kephren Thuram

In addition there's talk of them hijacking Newcastle's move for Celta Vigo striker Gabri Veiga.

Mac Allister is one hell of a player already, that price looks a snip. Kessie is inconsistent, but the others have bags of potential, in particular Thuram, who has been first choice in the Nice midfield since he was 19.

Cracking bit of business that, and Brighton again pulling off a master-stroke with their investments.

I'm not sure we should want anything but some proper competition for City, from wherever it comes.

Not surprised, no DM and still need a left sided defender for cover and competition.

Thought Chelsea were equally awful for the first half hour and last fifteen after Liverpool's double substitution. Actually though Conor Gallagher was the best player on the pitch (but then this is usual with Chelsea, they spend hundreds of millions on players and normally it's the one or two home grown players they actually give a chance to that look the best).

And how close are they to further ffp issues, incl. Caicedo I heard someone say Chelsea had spent £900m in the last year while recouping only £250m in sales. And with the utterly stupid lengths of contract they give to players in a desperate attempt to get round ffp you'd think the authorities would start getting serious and stamping these things out.

My recollection is that the change to 5 year max contracts for amortisation purposes came into force from 1st July.

Contracts can still be for longer periods, but amortisation has to be done over 5 years.

Maybe Chelsea have forgotten! :D

Well if that is the case then I presume that the PL won't ratify/approve the signing and so Chelsea will have to renegotiate another deal with the player or he'll have to go back to Brighton. Or can you have agreements longer than the period of amortisation?

The agreement can be for as long as they want. That's just the contract between club and player and his wages are expensed in the season in which he receives them. But the accounting when it comes to his transfer fee is limited to five years.

If that is the best and most constructive post that you can come up with then I suggest that your further absence from this board would not be missed and in fact would be welcomed.

Why on earth did you come back?

No, just find it odd when people post such inane things.
Did you even watch the game?

Caught the last ten minutes when it got interesting

If Rhodri was awarded a VAR pen then no idea why VVD wasn't given one.

Would have been very harsh to give a handball pen to LFC just before they were countered. I think there is an element of emotion/drama in the decision. Had they chalked the goal off and awarded a pen it's all they would be talking about this week. What do you reckon?

It just wasn’t a penalty so what followed was irrelevant to the decision (although slightly more relevant to the result)
