AthleticoSpizz Pits me in mind of a Radiohead song.

I thought someone would say that, so no surprises there.

Saw this on the BBC website this morning and thought of this thread.

So, here for your nostalgic pleasure is the link https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/extra/DqkhZA6FP7/around-the-92-in-the-1980s

Almost brought a tear to my eye at the end.

Brief mention of RFC too.

Liverpool have asked the PL to make their first game of next season an away game. They need to squeeze in a test event early August to get the certification out the way to open the new stand.

Apparently 6 hours after the final home game of this season, just after some community matches take place the same day/evening, the builders will be straight in prepping the removal of the old Anfield Road roof. Not wasting any time! They planned to remove it months earlier but some fans sat in the corners of the stand complained that they'd get wet, and we're the Southern softies...

From Despair To Where?

From Despair To Where?
Brings back memories of this.

Yeah, and it’s still not finished.

Similar story though. Started building, ran out of money and the site was derelict for a couple of years.

I see they're now looking at the possibility of a(nother) new ground at Kidlington

To get out of the clutches of the current landlord, who is an absolute cnut.

The perils of separating ground ownership from club ownership in a nutshell.

Re. Oxford's plans for a new stadium - the fans were asked what they'd like to see/have etc at the new ground, and most came back with "4 stands" lol

Oxford want to be out by 2026 when their lease expires.

Latest on Kidlington - https://uk.news.yahoo.com/residents-no- ... CRc60t9HGg

Thu, 11 May 2023 at 8:16 am BST·1-min read

The Triangle, south of Kidlington roundabout, has been identified as a possible site for a new Oxford United stadium.
Oxford United’s plans for a new football stadium have been rejected by residents in a poll.

The football club is proposing to build a 18,000-seat stadium on land south of Kidlington, known locally as the Triangle.

Yesterday (May 10) residents of the Kidlington Parish went to the ballot box to vote on the plans after it was requested by a group of locals.

A total of 3,006 ballot papers were cast. 928 residents voted yes, 2,073 voted no and five papers were rejected.

The overall turnout in the vote was 29.99 per cent.

The poll is not legally binding, and Oxfordshire County Council is set to make a final decision on the plans in September.

The land in question is owned by the council.

Oxford United currently play at the Kassam Stadium but the club’s lease on the stadium runs out in 2026.

Old roof now gone and dismantled, and now the old uppier tier is coming out one piece at a time. Looking at it you wouldn't think they'll be ready in 2 months time, but they're on schedule.

Sanguine Might have had this. Abandoned, crumbling, but still stunning. Valencia's 80,000-capacity Nou Mestalla is in disrepair, the site having been vacant since money problems halted its building in 2009.

Just back from 10 days in Spain and had a late night flight from Valencia last night. It's only 10 minutes drive from the airport, so did a detour. Looks great in the flesh, the site is indeed completely abandoned, apart from about a billion cats.

Went to the Mestalla too, proper old-school big stadium. Beautiful old photos, tickets, posters etc displayed around the outside of the stands. There was a big queue of people, some with wedges of cash, buying season tickets. Presumably just released. Prices top out at €1,640 subscriber / €1,476 shareholder for the Tribuna Central down to €250ish. It's a 30-minute walk across town to the Estadio Ciudad de Valencia – Levante's ground. No-nonsense 60s stadium, 26,000 capacity, but actually really nice, in a lovely part of Valencia. Wouldn't say no to this year's 3rd kit offering by Macron.

Anyone looking to attend Bristol Rovers (A) in the season will be interested in this. The owners have decided to knock down the temporary stand behind the goal. Unfortunately they still haven't got planning permission for a new one yet which has severely restricted capacity for the foreseeable. Barnsley only got a 500 allocation for a week Saturday with no disabled tickets. Hopefully it's resolved by the time we visit.

Surely that is against some sort of regulation?

IIRC from our days last playing at their level there was nothing behind one of the goals at a ground used previously for rugby.
I quite liked Eastville, the previous ground to that, which I think was a kind of bowl like Wimbledon's Plough Lane stadium where speedway used to take place.

Milan Council impose a 'cultural importance' status on the San Siro meaning AC Milan & Inter now have to scrap their plan to demolish it and build a new stadium on the same site

Watched Rovers and Reading at Eastville, the Memorial and Twerton. Eastville was definitely the best!
