Just to be clear, Wimbledon Stadium (also on Plough Lane) was used exclusively for speedway and greyhounds. A big old stadium as well and once held 42,000. Saw the Racers there and also the Wills Internationale, which was one of the most prestigious individual meetings of the 70s. Wimbledon FC played at the separate Plough Lane stadium.

Went to Eastville in 1985 and the other ground that I had been to that also hosted speedway was Newport County's Somerton Park. Halifax (The Shay), Bradford (Odsal) and Barrow (Holker Street) also hosted both sports.

Referee’d Poole Town many years ago and then stayed to watch the speedway in the evening!

Winston Biscuit Barcelona playing at the 49k capacity Olympic Stadium this season

Saw Espanyol v Las Palmas there. Not a great stadium for football TBH. Vinny Samways was playing for Las Palmas and had Madonna's soundcheck in the background as she was playing the Palau Sant Jordi later that night. 8)

Confirmed that the San Siro can't be demolished.

AC Milan and Inter will not be able to demolish the San Siro and build a new stadium together on the land after a new measure was taken to protect part of the structure.

An announcement was made on Tuesday by the Lombardy Regional Commission for Cultural Heritage (via La Gazzetta dello Sport) which confirmed that the second ring of the stadium was being placed under an anti-demolition restriction by the Superintendency.

This is because the second ring is turning 70 years old, achieving a status where it is protected by law and cannot be demolished after 2025.

It had become clear among all of the bureaucratic stoppages that Milan and Inter were not going to be able to carry out their original plan any time soon, but they will both now need to commit to building their own stadiums away from San Siro.

As things stand, it is most likely that Inter will head to Rozzano and Milan will head to San Donato.

Look at the paragraph after the one you bolded. Theoretically yes, presumably, but doing something that quickly in Italy? No way!

Ark Royal Just to be clear, Wimbledon Stadium (also on Plough Lane) was used exclusively for speedway and greyhounds.

It was also used for stock car racing, but obviously no football. There wouldn't have been room for a pitch.

Buckingham Group, who built the Bearwood training ground, and currently working on the Liverpool's Anfield Road stand and Northampton's East Stand, have gone into administration. They were already a couple of months behind on the Anfield schedule.

Berwick Rangers (speedway) and Cowdenbeath (stock car racing) both still have motorsports at their grounds.

So does the Reading FC car park at the end of a game :?

Luton have moved fast and done an impressive job in creating a new stand over the summer - 75% of it is open for the game in midweek.

Yes they need a test event in order to get full capacity so have given tickets to the locals and construction workers to try out.

Given what they had to start with and the timescale, I'd say it is pretty impressive

They had more room, but Notts County built three sides of their ground in the close season in the 90s.

Also went to Wimbledon to see speedway.
Chelsea had a greyhound track at Stamford Bridge and I was there once (for football) when the crowd on a banked terrace miles away from the action was nearly 80,000.

Wembley stadium as well of course also had greyhound racing.

Famously, one of the 1966 World Cup games was played at White City because the proprietors of Wembley refused to cancel the greyhound meeting to accommodate it.

They're also responsible for Fulham's new main stand being very very very late.

Work started in 2019 and now isn't expected to be completed until the start of the 2024/25 season!

Is that still not finished!? I understood Covid would've slowed things down and it's not the easiest build logistically, but for a single stand five years is laughably bad.

It looked done externally when I was last in the area (four/five months ago maybe), but there was clearly work still going on (which must be internal). If the firm responsible have had financial issues, that would help explain why it's taken so long.

Conversely, unexpected/ expensive delays to this may have caused those financial issues.
